Job Description

The Dean of College and Career position reports to the school leader and is responsible for all things post-secondary planning and college knowledge/exposure. The Dean of College of Career also models the college counseling expectations by maintaining a case load of students eligible for Early Action/Early Decision.  Their responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate on the Leadership Team and grade-level leadership team to share crucial college and career knowledge and keep leaders aware of students’ goals and progress towards their postsecondary plans 

  • Lead department meetings and professional development related to KIPP Forward. Includes: 2x a month meeting with Counseling team to review data.

  • Facilitate Monthly Match Meetings with high school leadership, KIPP Forward leadership, regional leadership, and the counseling team.

  • Facilitate and encourage strong communication between high school and KIPP Forward staff, teams and departments to continually improve outcomes.

  • Effectively plan the organization and time management of the team in planning parent nights, college visits, guest speakers, career exploration trips, and other postsecondary access programming.

  • Lead school based execution of Counseling and Match strategy, including management of an Early Decision cohort and development of a strong personal statement for every Senior.

  • Establish system to ensure every Junior and Senior meets 1:1 with their counselor 2x per year.

  • Observe counselors conducting 1:1s with students 2x per year and provide feedback.

  • Conduct weekly one-on-one check-ins with direct reports and participate in weekly one-on-one check-ins with the School Leader and the Regional Managing Director of KIPP of Postsecondary Success along with mid-year and end-of-year evaluations.

  • Observe seminar at least 1x a week and provide feedback to seminar instruction

  • Ensure implementation of seminar assessments and regularly review data with seminar instructors.

  • Provide training to teachers on how to support students in the college application process (letter of recommendation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required

  • Preferred 4+ years of experience in education.

  • Strong computer literacy, communication and interpersonal skills are highly preferred.

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once.

  • Must be able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to spend the majority of the day standing or mobile throughout a school or office, as well as talk, hear, grasp, reach and lift up to 30lbs with or without accommodations

  • Ability to concentrate in active and noisy environments such as schools, to more moderate situations such large group professional settings

  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment

  • Ability to handle potential high stress conditions
