Job Description

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Utilities Construction Technician (CEI Inspector) to support NCDOT and municipal construction projects. The position will be an embedded position at the NCDOT Division 7 offices in Greensboro, NC.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides utility coordination services for highway and bridge projects in the NCDOT Division 7 area which includes Guilford, Alamance, Rockingham, Caswell, and Orange counties.
  • Reads and interprets highway and bridge construction plans to coordinate public and private utility relocations to accommodate projects.
  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of highway and bridge construction activities. 
  • Activities may include inspection of engineering installations for compliance with specifications; maintaining project documentation; assisting with the inspections and/or oversight of building, repair, or maintenance of a structure, utility installations (power, gas, telephone, communications, water, and sewer), etc. 
  • Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties.
  • Performs field inspections and/or audit duties and maintains inspection records. Ensures all contract documents represented by working drawings and specifications are properly executed. 
  • Enforces AECOM's policies, procedures and related work rules as established by Project Management Team.
  • Relies on general to moderately complex knowledge of procedures, company policies, and business practices to plan and accomplish goals.

Additional Comments:

  • Weekend and night work may be required.
  • Overnight travel may be required (<5%)

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma plus two years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
  • US Citizenship required due to the projects associated with this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of NCDOT’s Highway Plan Reading course
  • NCDOT technician certifications for QMS Asphalt, Concrete, Level 2 Erosion Control and Conventional Density
  • Good written and verbal communication with construction personnel and engineers
  • Transportation construction, CEI, or other civil inspection experience
  • CTQP Final Estimates Level I
  • CTQP Concrete Field Technician Level I
  • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level II (Bridges)
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level II
  • Experience with Locally Administered Projects (LAP)
