Job Description
AECOM is seeking a creative, talented Environmental Technician III for immediate employment for BNSF Interbay Seattle, WA Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) operations and compliance inspections at various sites northern WA and Vancouver, BC. Duties include the following:
- Operating the WWTP to meet the required discharge limits during routine influent and treatment conditions outlined in the discharge permit.
- Operating the WWTP in a safe and professional manner, including maintaining required training and certifications including e- RAILSAFE, Contractor Orientation, and Roadway Worker Protection.
- Confirming proper operation and testing of the WWTP after repairs, maintenance, or cleaning.
- Participating in BNSF Bi-Monthly WWTP Operator calls, and annual BNSF WW Conference.
- Perform all inspections utilizing the BNSF’s EAM system.
- Perform routine cleaning of the DAF associated with WWTP operations.
- Coordinating and/or assisting with WWTP repairs, maintenance, and cleaning utilizing the EAM system.
- Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client specific programs.
- Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections, and compliance according to standard operating procedures.
- Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering, and organizing supplies and maintaining
work area. - Effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
- Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements.
- Preform SPCC, SWPPP, and WASTE inspections at various locations in Washington.
- Keep well organized files and documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
- Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.
- May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisor, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.
- Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.
- Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.
- Participate in other environment-related projects and tasks as required, and support WWTP operations at other client facilities under direction of staff, as necessary.
- Performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations.
- Conducts a variety of standardized tests and may prepare specimens; Sets up and operates standard laboratory testing equipment of moderate complexity.
- Records test data and provides observation and interpretations of it.
- Performs fieldwork, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.
- Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, practices, and procedures; recognizes differences or changes that would indicate the need for attention. Receives and maintains required safety training including OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER Training with annual 8-hr refresher, 30-hr OSHA Training, client-specific training, and regulatory specific training.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma + 4 years of relevant experience in Construction and Maintenance or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
- Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.
- Must be able to successfully complete initial and random screening requirements including drug, breathalyzer, urine and/or hair test.
- Valid US Driver’s License to operate an AECOM provided vehicle for travel to various project site(s) to support project task(s) assignments and scope of work. For positions with driving responsibilities, Motor Vehicle Records are reviewed as part of AECOM’s background check process to ensure compliance with the Company’s driving standards.
- Candidate must be able to meet medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical exam.
- Position requires availability for on-call duty. Employees who work on-call are expected to be available to work outside on their normal work schedule including weekends, on short notice.
- Position is primarily fieldwork: daily tasks require moving and working in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable environmental conditions including heat, cold, dusts, dryness, noise, moisture, vibration, and chemicals to perform daily walk-throughs, inspection of worksite, environmental sampling, and operations and maintenance tasks. Also, a portion of the daily work is unaccompanied in isolated/remote areas.
- Position requires frequent (more than 50% of the workday) repetitive bending/stooping, to perform environmental sampling tasks.
- Position requires power gripping/squeezing hand tools and levers 10-15% of workday.
- Position requires ability to operate office computer and field tablet to enter data tracking requirements.
- Position requires frequently lifting, carrying, and loading equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. such as sample coolers and pumps without assistance and up to 75lbs. with assistance.
- On occasion position requires working with arms above shoulder level and using ladders.
- Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, and hearing protection.
Preferred Requirements:
- Preferred 4 years of experience in Construction and Maintenance.
- Aptitude for operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to record data neatly, accurately, and legibly.
- Prior Health and Safety experience.
