Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking to add an Engineering Intern for our Chicago, Illinois office.  Our business focuses primarily on providing professional and technical services in the engineering design, code consultation, and construction phase services for a wide variety of clients both in the private and public sectors.  We execute large and complex engineering projects and provide a comprehensive range of professional planning and design, systems engineering and technical assistance, program and construction management, and operations and maintenance services. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of grant writing principles, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and researching grant opportunities in the energy sector.
  • Assisting in writing grant applications, including conducting background research and creating a calendar of grant deadlines to ensure timely submission of proposals.
  • Assist in developing outreach and marketing materials for stakeholder engagement.
  • Perform research related activities and compile related information.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or Environmental Studies with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.
  • Candidates must have completed two years of study in their program.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework in sustainability, natural resource management, and/or distributed systems engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong research skills and ability to identify relevant funding opportunities.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling narratives.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Knowledge of energy systems.

Additional Information

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in-office work in Chicago, IL.  The selected candidate must be available to work in Chicago, IL on a scheduled basis.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
