AECOM is actively seeking a mid-level environmental scientist for employment to be a task leader for a variety of military environmental projects (i.e., Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, and Remedial Actions) within the Federal sector. The successful candidate will have at a minimum a BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Geology with a successful work history of environmental investigation and remediation projects based in Guam.
The candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work may be required including the oversight of subcontractors.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
• Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.
• Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, and compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
• Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops an approach to solutions.
• Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
• Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.
• Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.
• Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.
• Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research, and makes recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Geology
4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to successfully obtain a DBIDs pass to gain access to any required federal military installation site locations
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or related discipline.
5 years of experience within the environmental consulting industry.
Experienced with environmental science principles, including site assessment and characterization, remediation, risk assessment, environmental chemistry, etc.
Ability to travel at least 30% of the time
Knowledge and experience working with Guam EPA and with local Guam environmental regulations
Experience military munitions response and environmental projects
Possess current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and Supervisor certifications and be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination
Effective oral and written communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.
Experience using ArcGIS and generating maps and report figures.
Excellent skills in written and spoken communication (including polished client presentation skills), organization, time management.
Field work will be required, including oversight of subcontractors.
Ability to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
