Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly talented, self-driven, and motivated Civil Engineer to be based in Oakland, California. The Water Department has a variety of projects, the most common of which include hydraulic infrastructure at reservoirs, including outlets and spillways, and water conveyance pipelines.

This position is expected to begin in June 2024.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Builds analytic and design skills.
  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or another related field and 2 years of experience in the field of water resources, water conveyance, or a related field and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).
  • Experience/interest in civil infrastructure design, hydrology and hydraulics, and/or pipeline and pump station design.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position, such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and/or Hydrologic/Hydraulic model.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment, and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Detail-oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project. Ability to multi-task and strong logic and writing skills. Documents time and effort accurately.
  • Good communication skills. Flexible – can adapt to shifting priorities/work schedules.
  • Able to work independently (self-learner), can take direction from others, and, in turn, can guide others.
