Job Description

What your new role will entail;

We are looking for an experienced Associate Director, Fluvial Geomorphologist to join our fantastic UK&I Water team. Here you will be responsible for high quality project delivery, with roles to suit the ideal candidate in planning, managing, modelling and designing sustainable geomorphology and river restoration schemes. 

A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

  • Mapping catchment modifications and river restoration opportunities across 9000km2 of Yorkshire and North East England.
  • Re-meandering the River Breamish, part of the River Till-Tweed SSSI and SAC in Northumberland.
  • Restoring Insh Marshes in the River Spey floodplain in the Scottish Highlands.
  • Re-meandering the River Eye SSSI in Leicestershire.
  • Restoring the River Lugg SSSI in Herefordshire.
  • Catchment planning for WFD objectives and Nature Recovery Networks nationally.
  • Analysing flow and sediment impacts for water transfer Strategic Resource Options, including the River Tame, River Trent, River Humber, and Grand Union Canal.
  • Detailed geomorphological field surveys along the whole route of HS2 Phase 2a.
  • Detailed geomorphological field surveys across the United Utilities region.

Role & Responsibilities;

You’ll bring your unique expertise on specific technologies or processes, and will be sought out for your technical excellence in:

  • Geomorphology / Hydromorphology
  • River restoration
  • Catchment planning
  • Project management
  • Nature Based Solutions modelling and design

Being part of the team;

All members of the Water Environment team take an active role in client contact and commercial aspects of our projects. Health, safety and environmental considerations underpin all of our work. 

Our Geomorphology team is currently ten-strong, and work closely with colleagues dealing with all aspects of surface water, groundwater, estuaries, lakes and the marine environment.

You will take a lead role in Geomorphology and Nature Based Solutions, in technical direction, innovation, business development and work winning.

As an experienced geomorphologist, you’ll provide line management and training to peers and junior team members, and liaise closely with internal and external clients.

Qualifications

Here's what we will need from you;

  • Degree in relevant subject (e.g. geography, physical sciences, engineering).
  • Proven experience in river restoration from concept to construction.
  • Proven track record in project management (bid writing to project delivery).
  • Ability to lead, coordinate, liaise and engage with clients, stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Technical and commercial project delivery.
