Job Description

Our Ground Engineering Practice covers all elements of Ground Engineering serving a wide range of end markets including highways, rail, water, development, MOD and nuclear sectors.

AECOM’s Ground Engineering specialists provide one-stop access to services in feasibility studies, ground investigation, interpretation, detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision for geotechnical works. We work for leading UK&I and international clients and have commissions of varying scale across all sectors, including projects such as High Speed 2, Neom and AIUia (Saudi Arabia), as well as large local projects such as Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme (LFAS2), Armley Gyratory Upgrade and the NPR Leeds Station Upgrade. Our Leeds team have a stable workflow through large frameworks in various sectors, such as rail (Network Rail, Story Contracting), highway (Area 33) nuclear (Sellafield Ltd), water (Severn Trent Water) and various local councils (Leeds, York, East Riding) and cutting edge MOD jobs.

We require ambitious team players with the technical and commercial skills, knowledge and experience to take day-to-day responsibility for delivery of projects, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme.  The positions will suit those who can work with a high degree of independence, can support junior team members, prepare fee proposals for external and internal clients and lead the input to projects from desk study/feasibility through ground investigation and interpretation to final design.

To be successful candidates must have a proven track record in the delivery of ground engineering projects in the UK and be fully conversant with the technical standards that apply.

  • Close collaboration with our Technical Directors and Associates in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Active input to team and client meetings, being prepared to own decisions and put forward alternative ideas and concepts.
  • On the job mentoring of junior staff and support towards achieving chartered status.
  • Preparing, checking and reviewing a wide range of technical documents, including desk studies, interpretative reports, specifications, construction drawings and design reports.
  • Preparing fee bids and proposals for internal and external clients.
  • Ensure rigorous adherence to AECOM’s industry leading quality assurance programme.
  • Support our geotechnical practice development and innovation.

Qualifications

  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc/MSc in Engineering Geology or Earth Science.
  • MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or a related applicable field is desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) or Geologist (CGeol) status is required or you must be on track to achieve this within the next 6 to 12 months.
  • A teamwork ethic and enthusiasm sharing knowledge and supporting others.
  • Strong problem solving and inter-personal skills, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports and documents.
  • A wide range of technical experience, knowledge and skills in geotechnical engineering.
  • Candidates must have well-rounded experience in geotechnical design of earthworks and structures and must have strong analytical skills and be confident with the use of relevant design software including (Slope/W, Wallap, Repute).
  • A strong working knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practice.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical data management software such as Bentley gINT/Holebase, Bentley OpenGround would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of Network Rail and National Highways design and reporting processes is desirable.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Candidates should be willing to travel within the UK.
