Job Description

AECOM Canada is pleased to announce that our Cultural Heritage team is growing, and we are now seeking a Senior Cultural Heritage Specialist to help us expand our service offerings.

As a leader in infrastructure planning, AECOM offers the opportunity to work on a range of complex, high-profile public and private sector projects that provide technical challenges and professional reward. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a key contact providing expert advice and guidance for heritage related matters for a variety of stakeholders, internal and external, including the public and municipal, provincial, and federal heritage agencies.
  • Provide leadership by managing projects of various types, sizes and complexities.
  • Conduct historical research, analysis, field surveys, and written descriptions of buildings and sites, including determining impacts on the historic environment.
  • Lead the development of key projects and the development of heritage deliverables, including Cultural Heritage Reports: Existing Conditions and Preliminary Impact Assessments, Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Heritage Impact Assessments, Documentation and Salvage Reports and other heritage reporting.
  • Attend and facilitate public information sessions involving heritage.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in heritage planning, heritage conservation, or in a heritage related discipline;
  • 6 years of experience working in the heritage profession or related field;
  • Member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP)
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver's license; and,
  • Member of OPPI an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree/diploma in heritage planning, heritage conservation, or in a heritage related discipline;
  • 8+ years of experience working in the heritage profession or related field;
  • Demonstrated project management and technical lead experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant policy frameworks such as the Ontario Heritage Act, the Planning Act, the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, the Transit Project Assessment Process, the Ontario Heritage Bridge Guidelines, and various municipal Official Plans;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of experience in heritage research, heritage conservation, architecture and building typology;
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write and review heritage reports including CHR/CHARs, CHERs and HIAs;
  • Experience and familiarity with municipal heritage planning processes, including heritage alteration applications;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team environment to meet strict time constraints and deadlines; and,
  • Experience using a variety of computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel)

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
  • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $70,000 - $90,000.
