Job Description

Purpose
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Trainee Technician to join the Safety team based at UTAC Millbrook. The trainee technician will be given all the necessary training to provide all the required technical support over two shifts to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. On successful completion of the required training, the candidate would be promoted to a technician role. It is expected that this training would take two years. The successful role holder will be responsible for preparing vehicles for crash or sled tests, recording data during the test and removing equipment after the test has been completed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare rigs/Vehicles for passive safety tests to customer requirements
  • Mechanical fitting of equipment to vehicles/test rigs
  • Set up high speed cameras for test filming to customer requirements 
  • Set up computer controlled data acquisition systems 
  • Collect and download data during tests
  • Setting crash dummies to customer requirements
  • Liaise with UTAC Engineers
  • Work from procedures
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Act in accordance with the behaviors for UTAC staff at all times 
     

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • GCSE or above
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering apprenticeship (desirable)

Experience

  • Basic computing skills (required).
  • General fitting (desirable).
  • Basic fabrication (desirable).
  • Vehicle mechanic (desirable).

Skills

  • Ability to use general hand tools.
  • Excellent record-keeping skills, along with basic maths and computing.
  • Must have the ability to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve problems and create solutions.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem solving skills.

Other

  • Prepared to work overtime as required
  • Flexibility to travel as and when required
  • Full UK driving licence & own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily assessable via public transport)
  • SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years)
  • Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check
