Job Description

The Security & Defence department works with vehicle manufacturers, the MOD and other government bodies to conduct design validation, verification and development testing at whole vehicle level. These projects can range from delivering the entire DVP and V&V test plan on a new vehicle platform, to short term tests on a specific part. Most of our work is focused on wheeled military vehicles. 

As a Senior Test Engineer – Defence, you will have the responsibility to develop and own the delivery of vehicle level tests, alongside a specialist team of technicians and engineers. You will develop test plans from top level requirements, conduct and document the tests, then asses the results and report accordingly.  

This is a fast moving hands on role that requires a flexible approach and a willingness to learn. Your time will be split between the office, workshops, proving ground and test chambers.  As the key point of contact for test activities conducting tests alongside the manufacturer or customer.

Responsibilities

  • Review test standards and requirements, and develop test plans which will validate them appropriately
  • Brief technicians on test content, and work with them to refine the test plans
  • Ensure appropriate instrumentation is installed on the vehicle and tested
  • Conduct tests with a technician, where you will own the operation of the data loggers or other instrumentation
  • Document all findings including test notes
  • Produce test reports or results sheets to confirm the pass/fail criteria of each requirement
  • Ensure the test vehicle is appropriately prepared for each test from a safety and functional point of view
  • Provide off-site UK testing support when required (+- 30% of test time).
  • Own customer communication relevant to your tests

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Hold a full UK driving licence (LGV cat C or CE advantageous)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant Engineering disciplines
  • Chartered or incorporated engineer status, or working towards registration preferred

Essential Core Competencies:

  • Vehicle level testing experience
  • General data acquisition understanding and ability
  • Knowledge of sensor types and applications
  • Knowledge of vehicle system functionality
  • Understanding of vehicle attributes, their assessment and benchmarking
  • Understanding of vehicle development and sign off process
  • Project management of vehicle tests 
  • Experience writing test plans and writing reports 
  • Operating in different environments away from base 

Desirable competancies:

  • Understanding of vehicle attributes, their assessment and benchmarking

  • Good communication skills and relationship skills with key stakeholders
  • Data analysis and validation, both of manual and logged measurements

  • Hands on, can do attitude with practical vehicle preparation

Other

  • SC security clearance or ability to achieve this - UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years is essential
  • Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check as well as security vetting
  • Flexibility to support test activity both off-site, occasionally outside of normal working hours.  Which may involve travel inside and outside UK as and when required
