Job Description

Project Engineering Manager

Warrington

Staff / Contract

Overseeing substantial Engineering Design resources (financial and / or people) and being accountable for the development and delivery of legally compliant, pragmatic fit for purpose design solutions that meet functional and business requirements.

The successful candidate will perform at Principal Design Engineer 1 level undertaking the specific role of Project Engineering Manager for a  Projects Portfolio in Site Management Project Office, reporting to the Senior Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • Essential Skills

  • Graduate (minimum BEng, preferred Meng) or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status in relevant discipline.
  • Meeting the CPD requirements of your Professional Institution.
  • Demonstrable experience of Project Systems Engineering discipline and its application within nuclear projects.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading and delivering a large portfolio of (or large), fit-for-purpose design engineering solutions to time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading engineering teams that include Sellafield and supply chain team members.
  • Knowledge of the governing laws, key regulations and standards for the nuclear industry and experience in applying them appropriately on projects.
  • Knowledge of the Project Delivery Fundamentals and application to ensure projects meet business and functional requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading on Nuclear Safety and EHSS matter

 

Experience

  • Significant and broad experience working in roles where knowledge of engineering is a key attribute.
  • Significant and broad experience working within a highly regulated and quality assured system where professional engineering judgement is the key attribute.
  • Experience of working in a variety of roles within the Engineering Design Profession.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading and delivering a large portfolio of (or large), fit-for-purpose design engineering solutions to time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Extensive team leadership experience.
  • Significant experience of managing professionally qualified engineers.
  • Significant experience of having personal responsibility for decisions involving substantial resources and their consequences.
  • Considerable experience of leading change and / or improvement programmes amongst engineering teams with demonstrable results.
  • Extensive experience of working collaboratively with the supply chain to deliver successful projects.

Knowledge

  • Considerable knowledge of Project Systems Engineering discipline and its application within nuclear projects.
  • Able to successfully apply engineering knowledge to deliver innovative products and services.
  • Broad understanding of other engineering disciplines and their role within engineering delivery.
  • Thorough understanding of the importance of nuclear safety and security and able to identify key nuclear hazards and articulate methods of managing these.
  • Knowledge of governing laws, key regulations and standards for the nuclear industry and experience in applying them appropriately on projects.
  • Thorough understanding of the structure of the Engineering Design community and the key interfaces with other areas of the business.
  • Knowledge of the Sellafield Ltd. Management System structure and the hierarchy of standards with a thorough understanding of those standards most relevant to Engineering Design and experience of applying these appropriately on projects.
  • Good understanding of the Project Delivery Fundamentals and experience using these to ensure projects meet business and functional requirements.
  • Good knowledge of the Nuclear Professionalism Standards and Expectations, utilising these in day-to-day decision making.
  • Good commercial awareness of NEC 3 Contracts.

Desirable Skills

Experience of successfully defining, leading and implementing change and / or improvement programmes with demonstrable results.

Certified INCOSE Associated Systems Engineering Professional or working towards Certification.

Evidence of broader support to the professional institutes and other bodies outside of core professional activities, often carried out in own time.

Proven ability to inspire and motivate the Engineering Design community.

Applied knowledge of manufacturing techniques and a general awareness of the constraints they impose on the product definition.

Security clearance:

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
