Principal Solutions Engineer (Associate Director)
Simple Machines is seeking a Principal Solutions Engineer (Associate Director) to become a part of our team. This full-time position is located in London and entails working as a consultant engineer on the development of data-driven platforms and products that are utilised by global brands.
The project you will engage with promises to be extremely engaging. You will collaborate with a high-performance engineering team dedicated to constructing a large-scale data-driven platform for a global telecommunications company.
This role represents a distinctive opportunity to work alongside a talented team. The members of this team have significant experience, having previously been employed by major global product, technology, and consulting firms, including but not limited to Facebook, PayPal, Google, Atlassian, Thoughtworks, and many others.

About the role
As a Principal Solutions Engineer (Associate Director) you will serve as a senior member of our engineering team in the UK.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Solution Development: Defining, designing, and delivering comprehensive and scalable software solutions for our major clients.
- Technical Leadership: Providing technical direction to a senior engineering team and assisting them in successfully delivering for our clients.
- Client Collaboration: Collaborating with client architecture, engineering, and business teams. You will help drive decision-making and act as an expert across diverse technology stacks.
- Best Practices and Design: Ensuring quality in our solutions through clean designs, adherence to best practices in technology, methods, architecture, and resilient builds.
- Client Success: Assuring the success of our solutions for clients by making sure they meet business needs, and that outcomes can be measured and aligned with client expectations.
The experience we’re looking for:
- Holistic Design Approach: This includes the integration of various aspects such as the business domain, user experience, enterprise architecture, both backend and frontend application architecture, and infrastructure.
- Technology Understanding: A comprehensive knowledge of technologies utilised across solutions is required. This encompasses cloud infrastructure, client-side and server-side applications, and data management (including databases, pipelines, etc.). Specific experience with infrastructure, a JVM-based language, React based web apps and data engineering is also essential.
- Relevant Experience: Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following roles: Technical Lead, Solution Architect, or equivalent positions.
- Client Interaction: Experience in working within a client-facing environment is crucial.
- Communication Skills: The ability to communicate technical subjects to a broad audience comprising both business and technical stakeholders is necessary.
- Collaboration with Data Science Teams: Experience in working alongside Data Scientists and in Machine Learning or AI capabilities would be considered a bonus.
The day to day
Typical daily activities would include work such as:
- Leading the solution on a highly technical internal and external engineering team
- Coding new features across the stack in our solution
- Driving best practices
- Documenting design and architecture
- Liaising with business stakeholders on requirements, issues or proposals
- Collaborating with our development team and diverse stakeholder group to shape technical solutions
