Job Description
Coffman Engineers is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer with two to five years of working experience, who wants to be a part of our office growth and culture. The successful candidate will have a desire to work, grow, and have fun with a multi-discipline engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a fire protection engineering degree, however, an engineering degree in other fields (mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) with working experience in fire protection or a desire/willingness to learn will also be considered.
This position will support the team in providing our clients with fire and life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; smoke control system design; site inspections and witness of life safety system testing; fire hazard analysis; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts.
The Anchorage Fire Protection Engineering department collectively has 60+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering across our department of four, all of whom will provide the successful candidate with training, mentorship, and support to help grow your career. We enjoy working together collaboratively in the office and supporting each other to deliver engineering solutions that makes the world a safer place.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Sciences. Degree in other engineering field with fire protection experience or desire/willingness to learn also considered.
- From two to five (2 – 5) years of experience in the fire protection profession
- EIT or ability to obtain EIT within 2 years.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Possess technical writing skills.
- Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Possess project management skills for managing internal & external client needs.
- Perform building and fire code analysis and code interpretations.
- Prepare life safety plans.
- Perform analysis of existing fire protection systems, as well as designing new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and mass notification systems
- Utilization of AutoCAD, Revit to prepare fire protection system designs.
