Job Description

As the VP of Payments Engineering for Xplor Technologies, you play a crucial role in leading and managing the payments engineering department. Your responsibilities involve in-depth understanding of system architecture and components, with a primary focus on the US systems but knowledge of the global systems as it relates to combining them together.  It also involves in-depth payments domain expertise and assisting teams and product around guidance of how market initiatives can fit into not just Xplor systems but also into the payments ecosystem.   This role is intended to evolve into management of multiple engineering teams.  

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Delivery Initiatives

  • Become a SME on the US platform. 
  • Enhance process and documentation around architecture and system understanding
  • Help build collateral to get someone up to speed on the systems faster 
  • Communicate and promote Xplor’s vision and long-term strategy for the company, align the Engineering Teams goals and strategy, with the company's overall goals.
  • Collaborate with the CTO and other stakeholders to define technology roadmaps, identify areas for innovation, and prioritize development efforts.
  • Make sure your designs account for partial Failure and the importance of planning for failure.
  • Keep systems as simple as possible coach others to reduce complexity of solutions as much as possible
  • Layout a 5-year vision for how the US system should evolve share it with global architecture group
  • Join Global and payment architecture meetings and become a part of the discussions and decisions within both of those groups

  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with other teams such as product management, quality assurance, and operations to ensure alignment and successful product delivery.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with the CTO, executive team, and other stakeholders, providing updates on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Encourage open and transparent communication within the teams, fostering a culture of proactive feedback, celebration of accomplishments, shared team success, and constructive criticism.
  • Foster collaboration and connection across the teams

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously evaluate and refine software development processes, methodologies, and tools to increase efficiency, productivity, and software quality.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, and assess their potential impact on the company's software development efforts.
  • Encourage a culture of innovation and experimentation, empowering teams to explore new approaches and technologies that could drive business value. 

Stakeholder Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, to understand their requirements, provide updates on progress, and manage expectations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CTO and executive team, providing insights and recommendations on software engineering strategies and initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a senior-level executive with a minimum of 15+ years of experience leading technical teams, a proven track record of driving innovation and modernizing engineering approaches, and a passion for developing new products and services.

  • Have a balance of technical expertise and business acumen and be able to lead a diverse, global team of engineers.
  • Deep understanding of the Payments space and be able to think strategically, develop innovative solutions, and communicate effectively with executives, partners, and customers.
  • This role will be responsible for the development and implementation of a cutting-edge engineering strategy that will drive growth and innovation for payments
  • Strategic mindset (hypothesis driven, 80:20 mindset, iterative approach, activist stance)
  • Self-managed with progressing thought leadership in deep tech exposure
  • Analytic and problem solving skills
  • New (but proven) methodologies or ways of working.
  • Ability to balance dogmatism and pragmatism to guide decision making. Articulate trade-offs and drive high-impact technology decisions on topics including (but not limited to) SaaS/IaaS/PaaS providers, container orchestration, service mesh, API gateways, and commercial vs. open-source software. 
  • Approaches to managing Architectural debt, Architecture governance and evolution in practice.
  • Good understanding of event driven microservices architecture  API design, and implementation patterns.
  • Micro services topologies, including operational concerns such as resiliency, observability, discovery and routing, security etc.

The average base salary pay range for this role is between $190,000 -220,000 USD

May be considered for a discretionary bonus
