The British Museum is the UK's leading visitor attraction and welcomes over five million visitors a year. The Visitor and Security Services Department (VSS) are looking to recruit Security First Line Managers to lead and develop our security teams across the Museum Estate. The primary purpose of the service is to deliver protective security for visitors, staff and one of the most important collections in the world. To this end, we are looking for a person who can lead our teams and deliver exemplary security and customer service.
What are the key responsibilities of the Security First Line Manager role?
As a Security First Line Manager you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and security of the UK's number one visitor attraction, protecting the... Museum, its visitors, staff, and collection. Managing a team of Security Officers across the Museum site, you will ensure that your team always delivers a professional security service, all while managing operational responsibilities and developing and managing your team.
What might a normal day look like?
You will manage your team in protecting the Museum and engaging with visitors by managing crowds, monitoring required checks, or patrolling the Museum to provide a visible presence. This will involve effective planning and coordinating of resources, making operational decisions, and managing emergency situations and team performance, all to provide a safe, secure, and fulfilling environment for the Museum's visitors.
The ideal candidate will be a Security Services professional whose skills and experiences are:
• Line and operational management.
• Managing safety, security and emergency responsibilities and situations.
• Effective communication skills.
• Identifying opportunities for improving operational delivery.

Interview Timelines: The interviews will take place between 2 - 6 December 2024.
The interview will consist of competency-based questions as well as a short knowledge assessment.
Start date:It isanticipated that the successful candidates for this role would start on or around 13 January 2025.
