We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our forward thinking and innovative School Nursing team, which is part of the Public Health 0-19 services in Wandsworth.

Central London Community Healthcare is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and innovative practitioner to join the School Nursing Service in Merton. The practitioner must be a Registered Nurse with a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Qualification (School Nursing).

Please note: The advert states that the base is at 160 Falcon Road, however the base could be one of the 3 bases in Wandsworth and will depend on service need. This will be confirmed at interview.

Main duties of the job

The School Nursing service comprises of a large skill mix team, which is structured to deliver core and targeted health input through the Healthy Child Programme to all school... aged children and their families.

The applicant should demonstrate leadership skills, knowledge of safeguarding and child protection processes and offer flexibility in managing their caseload.

In addition, they should have a strong public health focus and be fully committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our diverse school aged population.

In our last CQC inspection CLCH was awarded a GOOD rating, we are listed amongst the Top NHS organisations to work for by HSJ. In 2019 CLCH achieved sustained UNICEF level 3 status of the prestigious Baby Friendly Award in recognition of our outstanding support for breast feeding mothers and we are currently working towards the GOLD award. We are one of the few boroughs to offer specialist breast feeding advice from an ICBC registered lactation consultant. Merton Health Visitors and School Nurses are co-located in Children's Centre's across the borough. We have strong links with our colleagues in Early Years and the Local Authority.

Education/Qualification

Essential
• Registered Nurse/Midwife (current)
• Specialist Community Public Health Nurse School Nursing / working towards SCPHN qualification
• Evidence of continuing post- registration education and training

Desirable
• Practice Assessor course
• PSHE Course
• Community nurse prescribing qualification or prepared to work towards.

Experience

Essential
• Recent school nursing experience
• Be able to co-ordinate health promotion initiatives in line with local and national health improvement targets
• Experience of working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and inter-agency working
• Experience of organising and managing own workload
• Experience of assessing, planning and implementing programmes of care and writing care plans
• Experience in providing practice based learning support to others
• Experience of evidence based care
• Experience of supervising students

Desirable
• Counselling qualification
• Teaching qualification
• Mental Health First Aid training

Skills

Essential
• Knowledge of current health and social care agenda relevant to area of work and professional practice
• Current knowledge of safeguarding issues
• Knowledge of quality issues, the audit process and clinical governance
• IT, numeracy and literacy skills
• Knowledge of recent developments in primary care and community services

Other

Essential
• Ability to be flexible and responsive to children/young people and organisational needs
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
