Job Description

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibility:
The IT Business Analyst supports the organization by assessing the impact of requested changes, capturing and documenting requirements, and ensuring that those requirements are delivered by IT. In addition, the Business Analyst is responsible for the documentation and execution of test plans for the delivered functionality while supporting the business through the implementation process. Business Analysis is part of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and the Business Analyst will be involved from initial concept through final implementation, including requirements gathering, design, testing and implementation.
Essential Job Duties:
Level I - Minimum
- Consult with different areas of the organization to identify and document the requirements for new systems and enhancements to existing systems.
- Document business functions and processes using a best practice standard developed by the Business Analysis team.
- Track and document requirements for business and functional specifications using best practice standards developed by the Business Analysis team.
- Track and fully document test cases to validate requirements are met using best practice standards developed by the Business Analysis team.
- Participate in direct observations with business resources to understand workflows as part of the project timeline. The Business Analyst will need to be able to execute workflows during testing phases of the project.
- Actively participate in testing of new and enhanced system functionality.
- Capture issues found in testing in a documentation repository.
- Document requirements, test cases, issues, and testing evidence using a documentation repository.
- Understand and follow the Information Technology (IT) SDLC process.
- Represent department and the organization favorably and in accordance with established Company standards and associate attributes at all times
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by management
Level II – Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:
- Actively participate in unit, system, and user acceptance testing of new and enhanced system functionality. Consult with Subject Matter Experts when needed but will have full ownership of validating new functionality.
- Act as a liaison between departmental end-users, technical analysts, and consultants in the SDLC to ensure optimal operational performance.
- Work with other Business Analysts to develop best practice standard of documenting business processes, requirements and test cases.
- Develop training materials when applicable.
- Train lab resources to use Viracor’s applications and new functionality.
- Configure workflows in applications when appropriate.
Level III – Fully meets the qualifications of Level II plus the following:
- Own development of best practice standards which are followed by the Business Analysis team.
- Mentor and guide other Business Analysts.
- Perform Business Analyst work on large complex, cross-departmental projects.
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Level I - Minimum
- BS degree in biological, physical, chemical, clinical laboratory science or an associate degree in medical laboratory technology and/or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 1 years of professional work experience.
- Understanding of lab operations and functions.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of information.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills.
- Service driven with a professional attitude.
- Ability to solve problems, prioritize and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment.
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and within a team.
- Ability to make independent decisions on small issues seeking guidance from management when necessary.
- Goal-oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with peers.
- Ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
- Healthcare or laboratory knowledge/experience preferred.
Level II – Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:
- 4+ years of business analyst experience or other relevant experience.
- Ability to provide proactive recommendations to management and internal stakeholders.
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy of information.
- Excellent level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Ability to coach, train and mentor others.
- Ability to make independent decisions regarding matters of significance, seeking guidance from management when necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with peers and management at all levels in the organization.
- Ability to create an end to end workflow using LIMS administration knowledge and experience.
- Complete understanding of SDLC processes, experience writing complete requirements and test cases.
- Ability to write and execute test cases independently.
- Travel may be required.
- Ability to aid the Help Desk in answering user’s questions and resolving problems.
Level III – Fully meets the qualifications of Level II plus the following:
- 7+ years of business analyst experience or other relevant experience
- Highly analytical with the ability to identify key insights from data
- Highly skilled in gathering requirements and documenting business requirements
- Expert level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to build teams, communicate, motivate and influence associates at all levels across the organization
- Exceptional verbal & written communication skills
- Ability to create multiple end to end workflows for a large complex project using LIMS administration knowledge and experience.
- Ability to plan and lead testing for large complex projects.
- Ability to contribute to design and solution discussions.
Physical Requirements:
- Comfortable with being around infectious materials and wearing PPE in a laboratory environment
- Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead
- Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
- Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
- Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
