Senior Mechanical Design Engineer This is an exciting opportunity to join the Brompton New Product Development team to help define the Brompton of tomorrow. Taking full ownership of projects from initial brief all the way through to mass manufacture and implementation onto the bike. Using knowledge of mass manufacturing techniques and working closely with the cross functional team to execute projects quickly and efficiently. Main Responsibilities Bring concepts to life through fast-paced product development. Apply mass-production principles to components and accessories that delight our customers. Manage relations between Brompton and suppliers with focus on quality and sustainability. Create design baselines including: 3D modelling using CAD. 2D drawings including relevant use of GD&T. Mock-ups and prototypes. Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively with both your immediate team and the wider company. Reconcile the mechanical, aesthetic, and ergonomic approaches. Manage BoMs... Create specifications and design verification plans based on requirements. Who you are: We are looking for a proactive, creative and detail focussed design engineer with a proven track record of taking concepts through to mass manufacturable products. You will be working in an industry leading, cross-functional team encompassing Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Analysis, Production Engineering, Prototyping and Reliability. In this role, you'll be part of a close-knit team where collaboration and initiative are key. Once you’ve found your feet, the ideal candidate should be ready to support team members as needed and take ownership of projects, demonstrating a proactive approach and a willingness to go above and beyond, without the need of constant input from programme management. Skill Set & Personal Attributes Mandatory In possession of a Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive or related engineering degree – beneficial if educated to postgraduate level. Demonstrable experience in mechanical design with a focus on consumer products. Experience in the use of Design by Analysis tools (e.g., parametric design, mathematical modeling.) Can-do attitude and collaborative personality essential. Advantageous Competent in the use of CAD – beneficial if certified SolidWorks training is proven. Exposed to the use of SolidWorks PDM. Familiarized with detailed mechanical design – more competitive if specific experience on use of standard machine parts is available. Good understanding of BS888 and ISO GPS - basic knowledge of technical drawing best practices and GD&T fundamentals outside these norms will also be considered. Working knowledge of metrology fundamentals – both traditional and extraction methods considered. Proficient in mechanics of rigid and elastic solids – exposure to FEA also considered. Experience in mass-manufacturing techniques (e.g., injection moulding, die casting, etc.) Experience in finishing methods (e.g., paints and coatings, heat treatment, etc.). Experience in materials selection for mechanical design. Flexible working 9 Day Fortnight – This is a flexible working pattern which individuals can opt in for where an employee works their contractual hours across 9 days instead of 10 days. (i.e. 80 hours across 9 days instead of 10 days). This means the individual would work an additional hour across Monday to Thursday (across the 2 week period) to gain their Friday off.
