JOB DESCRIPTION

At Sava, we are looking for an Automation Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team to develop a next-generation biosensing device.
In this role, you will be an integral part of the Automation Team, involved in the design and development of custom fixtures and semi-automated/automated equipment required for manufacturing, as well as R&D. The role will also include supporting the acquisition of high volume automation equipment, (gathering requirements, equipment documentation, testing and qualifications etc).#

You will be involved in several equipment design areas, including prototyping, mechanical, electrical, and controls system design, and will help to... validate equipment, write manuals, and conduct EQ checks prior to the release of the equipment. You will work on projects closely with other Automation team engineers from start to finish.

RESPONSIBILITIES

May include but not limited to:
• Equipment Design
• * Capturing and gathering full equipment requirements from teams, continually reviewing them during the design stages to ensure understanding of specifications.
• Designing 3D model mechanical fixtures/automation equipment and generating drawings for manufacturing of parts, ensuring compliance with design standards and manufacturing feasibility (using CAD software).
• Basic designing of pneumatics and electrical control systems (mains & low voltage) and developing schematics based on equipment requirements.
• Designing field wiring architecture for equipment.
• Selecting hardware components for designs and system assembly.
• Participate and conduct equipment design reviews for project stakeholders.
• Equipment Manufacturing
• * Supporting the prototyping and de-risking of critical design elements.
• Assisting with equipment building stages and interpreting control drawings (panel build and field wiring).
• Programming of PLC’s, Safety PLC and HMI Development.
• Conducting EQ checks and commissioning equipment.
• Systematically identifying, debugging, and rectifying equipment issues, identify, and in a safe manor.
• General
• * Generating comprehensive technical documentation for equipment.
• Presenting comparison tables in relation to new OTS equipment.
• Gathering feedback and observations from team members to improve equipment and processes.
• Communicating technical information clearly with team members and ensuring timeline targets are achieved for projects.
• Problem solving in a creative but realistic method.

PAST EXPERIENCE
• 5-years of experience in medical device/pharma industry or similar industry.
• A degree in an Engineering discipline.
• Mechanical design experience on SolidWorks.
• Mechanical build experience, including tooling and fixture assembly (hands-on).
• Control schematic design experience on SolidWorks Electrical.
• Control build experience, including panel layout assembly, field wiring, pneumatic plumbing (hands-on).
• PLC Programming and HMI Development experience on Allen Bradley, Beckhoff or similar and Safety PLC programming on Pilz or similar.

REQUIREMENTS
• Experience in designing for manufacture in a variety of fabrication techniques.
• Design and schematic design experience on SolidWorks.
• Ability to understand technical drawings and to conduct EQ checks.
• Confidence in working with multi-disciplinary teams and understanding engineering trade-offs.
• Understanding of Relay and PLC logic.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, etc.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and work in a team environment on projects with other engineers.
• Proficient at time management.
• Basic knowledge of all areas covered in equipment design with knowledge of automated machine components.
• Knowledge of hardware market brands.

PREFERRED
• Experience with equipment design in the medical device/pharma industry or similar.
• Experience with programming languages, especially Python.
• Experience with vision system programming and implementation.
