We have an established in service training programme. You will also be well supported by experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapists and Band 8a Clinical Leads.
Main duties of the job
To perform advanced Occupational Therapy assessment for patients with diverse presentations and complex physical, cognitive and psychological / mental health conditions. To provide a diagnosis of functional status, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment plan.
To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from a senior Occupational Therapist is available as required. Supervision takes the form of regular informal / formal discussions and teaching, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, demonstrating time management and planning skills.
To supervise, educate and assess the performance of less experienced Occupational
Therapists and assistants to ensure the standards of practice of the department are met.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.
As we recover from Covid-19, we're proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive forour teams to innovate and change.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre Radiotherapy Centre Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.

Education / Qualifications
Essential
• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• HCPC Registration as an Occupational Therapist.
• Evidence of CPD.
Desirable
• Post graduate clinical training.
• COT/BAOT Membership.
• Evidence of completion of Trust statutory training.
Skills / Abilities
Essential
• Ability to organise, priortise and delegate.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of limitations of own clinical practice.
Desirable
• Competent IT skills.
• Presentation skills.
• Experience of supervision of other staff i.e. assistants and technical instructors.
Experience / Knowledge
Essential
• Broad acute inpatient experience at Band 5 Occupational Therapist level or above.
Desirable
• Experience at Band 6 Occupational Therapist level.
