Haringey Aquatics, based in north London, is looking for a highly motivated and inspiring Level 2-qualified Swimming Coach to join our team and deliver a programme at three pools across the borough.
Our programme provides a pathway with multiple points of entry from Learn to Swim stages 6 to 10 (Swim England Learn to Swim Programme), competitive and performance squads, swimming for fitness (Club Squad) and masters, enabling young people and adults to take their swimming further. The successful candidate will plan and deliver high-quality, enjoyable, coaching sessions working across our development and competitive... programmes and with our Club and Masters Squads.
The club: We are Haringey’s only competitive aquatics club, and we provide quality coaching in swimming, diving and water polo for all levels of ability. A friendly, inclusive club, we aim to provide opportunities, through regular training, for each of our members to achieve their full potential. Our experienced, passionate coaches offer a pathway for progression in aquatic sport from novice level through to County, Regional and National competition standards.
Haringey Aquatics is proudly affiliated to Swim England through the London Region.
The role: Sessions at our pools run from 6-9 pm, Monday to Friday and 8-10 am e hours will be around 20 hours per week, although consideration will be given to applications from candidates with more limited availability. The successful candidate’s hours will be agreed upon with the Head Coach and include some attendance at competitions.
Main responsibilities:
• Be accountable for the welfare of individual swimmers and teachers during training sessions
• Be accountable for the planning, delivery and management of training sessions, in conjunction with the head coach
• Opportunity to lead land-based strength training sessions for talented squad swimmers (if appropriately qualified or willing to gain the relevant qualification)
• Help deliver the vision of the head coach through engaging and progressive training plans
• In conjunction with the coaching and teaching teams, identify, encourage and develop talent across the swimming programme
• Monitor, evaluate and feedback on individual swimmer’s progress and set development goals where appropriate
• Provide ongoing feedback to staff and conduct performance appraisals
• Maintain poolside discipline in accordance with our Club’s policies and procedures and with Swim England Code of Ethics
• Help arrange coaching/teaching cover for our sessions and be available to provide coaching cover across other facilities when necessary
• Keep abreast of and be willing to implement the latest developments and innovations in swimming coaching, updating qualifications as necessary
• Maintain a comprehensive register of attendance
• Be an ambassador for the Club
Candidate attributes:
• Level 2 ASA Coaching Award or Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate
• Strong knowledge of child safeguarding and welfare procedures (with relevant qualifications)
• Strong technical skills and understanding of the discipline of swimming
• Excellent interpersonal skills (friendly and engaging)
• Strong organisational skills
• Ability to motivate, encourage and inspire swimmers
• Ability to communicate effectively with parents, colleagues and committee
• Ability to work closely and constructively with Head Coach and committee
• Ability to work and develop relationships with key personnel at training venues
• Ability to work effectively, independently and as part of a team.
• Punctuality, reliability and commitment to the club and its goals
• A full driving licence or ability to reach required locations
• Enhanced DBS certification will be required
