Job Description
Engineering Managers are instrumental to the success of our Engineering squads. Between responsibilities as a people leader and a technical... problem-solver, you’ll need to have a deep understanding of what motivates and inspires great software engineers, be able to help with complicated technical challenges and work collaboratively with Product Managers to maximise the value we bring to our customers.
The code we write powers every aspect of our business, from the menu recommendation engine to driving our supply chain. As a growing scale-up, we need to build a scalable platform to match our growth trajectory. We’re developing effective tools and processes to ensure we continue delivering quality code swiftly. At Gousto, our squads typically consist of 3-8 Engineers, a Tech Lead, a Product Manager, and an Engineering Manager. We are a diverse team with members from various backgrounds, embracing a mostly flat structure where everyone's unique experiences and knowledge contribute to our success.
Core Responsibilities:
• Build world class, diverse teams by hiring bar raising talent
• Drive Software Engineering team excellence and growth
• Coach, mentor, and provide high-quality feedback to team members
• Advocate for improvement of quality, performance and reliability of our systems
• Own the technical architecture and infrastructure vision of your squads’ domains
• Support product in creating roadmaps that iteratively deliver value while contributing to your domains longer term vision
Who You Are:
• You have proven experience leading high performing, autonomous engineering teams in complex environments
• You have a delivery mindset - we have a lot to do in a short space of time
• An advocate of XP or similar software engineering practices
• Great understanding of the principles of Agile and Lean development
• You have experience in architecting distributed systems on a public cloud platform
• Excellent communication and presentations skills, whether to the engineering team, business stakeholders or to our leadership team
• You have experience working in a fast paced, high growth, technology focused organisation
• Proven experience helping to create a forward-thinking technology culture
