Medical Officer at Group Eleven

Essential Requirements:
• Medical background
• Experience in welfare (e.g., first aid)
• Ability to use initiative

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support all schools by organising their NHS programmes i.e. vaccinations (Flu, HPV, MMR, DTP+M) fluoride application, audiology, height & weight. This involves setting dates, distributing, and collating letters, reminders and consent forms and arranging an appointments timetable for each child to ensure the minimal disruption to class (and liaising with the Head of Governance and Data Protection as required).
• Keep up to date with Health and Safety regulations and maintain current First Aid certificates for staff across the trust.
• Liaise with Head teachers/ Trust heads of departments to arrange training for staff, i.e. diabetes, first aid, other specific training needed
• Notify the Head Teacher, Safeguarding department and/or premises of any serious accidents.
• Support Health and safety reporting with RIDDOR
• Notify and liaise with... parents as the need arises, accompanying them to hospital should this be deemed necessary.
• Keep up to date with the needs of staff and children who have special medical conditions.
• Be supportive, caring, and empathetic for children and staff including listening to concerns.
• Provide support advice and guidance to school staff as necessary
• Support schools with medical and hygiene inspections as necessary.
• Provide emergency and routine first-aid treatment for pupils, staff, and visitors, including auto – injectors.
• Deal with emergency health related incidents.
• To prepare and support generic, and where appropriate specific, risk assessments and or care plans for situations and individuals.
• Supervising pupils that self-administer their own medication. • Liaise with the Health Authorities as necessary, including NHS. Public health
• Cover absence, sick leave and training for school-based welfare officers when required
• To complete requests and referrals to external agencies when required, GP surgery, Hartwell, school nursing team
• Maintain and oversee the correct use of software linked to first aid 12
• Be responsible to review and adhere to policies and school guidance
• Support pupil record keeping are updated and record
• Ordering of stock and budget management
• Supporting safeguarding team
• Work closely with other departments within school, e.g. Kitchen to ensure children’s individual needs are met
• Ensure all areas of medical and first aid compliance are being adhered to across the Trust.

Welfare
• Monitor emergency stock of prescribed medicines and tablets for distribution to certain students, as, in line with parental consent with the appropriate documentation completed.
• Support school staff with first-aid kits and medical lists for use during all school activities, e.g., school trips and maintain first-aid boxes placed around the school with the appropriate documentation completed.
• Contacting the parent in a professional and calm manner.
• Support and help schools prepare for outings, trips, residentials school staff outings’ first aid/sick pack for children on class trips ensuring that responsible teacher in charge of the trip is aware of any child’s needs
• Note any unusual mark, bruising or injury which may be interpreted as a “non-accidental injury” and notify the Headteacher and staff under the school’s child protection procedures.
• Ensuring medical budget is and stock is available and ordered Communication
• Contact parent/carer if additional support is required by school staff
• Obtain, and keep updated, written consent for administration of medication for all students.
• Monitor data with school staff if visits to the Medical Room become very regular.
• Report sensitive, controversial, or personal issues to Safeguarding Manager or Senior Designated Officer (Headteacher) in confidence. Administration and Reporting
• Record every visit and treatment required/given.
• Prepare and report all accident/incident, in line with legislation, appropriately reported undertaking a full trend analysis on a ½ termly basis.
• Fill in Accident / Incident daily ensuring the data is input to the relevant monitoring system. • Inform parents of any head injury and, where possible, every incident that provides some cause for concern.
• Ensure that the Safeguarding Manager and Senior Leadership Team link is informed of any serious or non-accidental incident dealt with.
• To ensure the health care records of high-risk students are prepared and always maintained with the relevant staff being notified.
• To ensure all related equipment and supplies, for the medical room and around the school, are suitably always maintained.
• RIDDOR - Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 to Head of Facilities Management. Additional Duties
• Attend parents evening for new intake to meet parents
• Attend TAF or relevant meetings where appropriate

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: £33,000.00-£35,512.00 per year

Experience:
• Medical Background: 1 year (required)
• School welfare: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:
• Enhanced DBS (required)
