In addition to the well known high street and boutique brands that are offered at Stitch Fix, our Womenswear business also features 4 exclusive brands that are designed and developed by an in-house creative Own Buy Buying and Design team. While each of our exclusive brands has a different aesthetic and end use, there is an overriding feminine and commercial handwriting within the brand DNA. Throughout our creative process, we are inspired by and embrace the fashion market and also leverage our vast amounts of client feedback to inform the product choices we make. ABOUT THE ROLE
Stitch Fix is seeking an experienced Junior Designer to join our Own Buy Womenswear team and work alongside our talented Buyers, Merchandisers and Technicians. As part of this small and highly collaborative team, you will have... the opportunity to work across our multiple exclusive brands while focusing on the woven tops and dresses (woven & jersey) product categories. As the sole designer for these categories, you will be responsible for the end to end development process, from research and identifying white space and areas of opportunity to range building of finished samples with the Buying team. You will have the unique opportunity to liaise with a wide range of internal partners, including our Styling, Marketing, Data Science & Engineering teams, as well as our external supply base, to interpret client feedback and execute opportunities for improvement to better serve our clients through style, colour, fashion attitudes and fit. This is a truly dynamic role, and we are looking for someone who is excited to apply your proven design skills in a new and innovative way!
YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY BECAUSE YOU WILL:
• Research brand specific trend & visual concepts from the marketplace, social media, catwalks and other research resources for seasonal collections across your product categories
• Assist Design Manager in building trend, colour and storyboards, attending global ingredients and team ingredient meetings, and giving clear, well considered, trend input
• Develop balanced and commercial ranges including identifying new key items as well as updating essentials (refresh, new inform, new explore) in an appropriate and timely manner
• Create and maintain Design Tech Packs for categories owned, working with your garment tech to ensure styles adhere to standard specs, are fit for construction and supplier production
• Support Design Manager with CAD range sheets across all OB product areas
• Instigate and adhere to design critical path deadlines and efficiently upload all design information onto the PLM system ensuring all relevant parties have visibility and suppliers are fully briefed and questions addressed in a timely manner
• Be confident in fabric and trim sourcing, attending fabric fairs, print houses and trend direction forums as appropriate.
• Attend development and sign off meetings with the ability to present on design and product direction
• Attend fit sessions with the buyer and garment tech with the ability to give constructive input
• Maintain strong awareness of company trade across the Womenswear Department, leveraging client feedback data to improve product, building on high performers and identifying areas of opportunity
• Build close relationships with cross-functional team members and external suppliers, leverage team member expertise and provide feedback when appropriate
• Support Own Buy leadership team when needed with special project initiatives
WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE:
• You have a B.A. in fashion design or other relevant field (i.e. Pattern Making, Textiles, etc.) with 5+ years design experience in the apparel industry, ideally in a fashion retail environment
• You have a strong feminine design handwriting, are customer-focused within your creative process, and have demonstrated commercial success
• You have the ability to be analytical in your approach to design and are excited about using data to help you push product performance
• You have hand drawing skills, are proficient in design systems/tools including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and excited about pushing boundaries and innovation with CAD (i.e. CLO 3D)
• You have experience working with factories and a strong understanding of production timelines, equipment and garment construction options
• You are comfortable communicating with a variety of cross-functional business partners and exhibit the utmost respect and professionalism in your ways of working
• You are someone who exudes positivity, possesses a can-do attitude and the ability to persevere through setbacks and challenges
• You are eager to learn whilst being confident to take initiative and ownership within your areas of responsibility
• You are able to effectively problem solve, prioritise and work through changes in direction and/or business need
• You thrive in a feedback driven environment and are open to continued new ways of working
• You will be excited about visiting suppliers both in the UK and abroad once it is safe to do so
• You can be based full time in our London office (once restrictions lift and the office reopens safely)
