We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.Job overviewUnder the direction of the Director of Governance, lead patient safety for the organisation and provide expert advice on patient safety.Responsible for the Leadership and management of the Patient Relations Complaints and PALS Service.Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement within all facets of the... organisation to ensure best practice in the delivery of patient care, ensuring systems support improvements in clinical risk.Support divisions in developing their risk and governance assurance frameworks.Participate in education and training programs, developing training programs in patient safety.Deputise for the Director of Governance with full delegated authority.Develop external networks in order to learn from best practice and create opportunities for UHMBT to develop patient safety.Main duties of the jobContinually review the Trust’s approach to patient safety in line with national strategy and policy, whilst advising and implementing across the Organisation.Develop, review and implement patient safety and associated policies across the Organisation.Ensure, in conjunction with Care Group Clinical Directors, Associate Directors of Nursing and Operational Managers, that the processes and structures to facilitate patient safety are established and operational within Care Groups.Develop methods for monitoring the effectiveness of patient safety activity and ensuring that these systems are implemented across the care groups/organisation through regular audit.Ensuring that the Trust’s patient safety activity and monitoring arrangements comply with the requirements of key external agencies such as commissioners and regulators.Person specificationEducation and QualificationsDegree in relevant subject areaContinued professional development obtained through formal qualification or experience to Masters level in relevant clinical specialtyEvidence of relevant Post Graduate Education in patient safety/incident investigation or appropriate experienceFormal Project or Programme Management training (PRINCE2/MSP or experience)Teaching/Training Qualification (or relevant experience)Registered Healthcare ProfessionalExperienceExtensive experience of clinical risk management and assurance in a clinical settingExperience of monitoring clinical effectiveness and reporting variation through formal mechanismsExperience of carrying out incident investigation techniques and methodologies, including root cause analysisExperience of managing and utilising computerised systems to monitor clinical effectivenessExperience of significant clinical leadership and departmental managementExtensive experience of working within the NHS at a senior levelExperience of managing and developing effective departmental teams.Skills, ability and knowledgeEvidence of commitment, motivation and adaptability.Proven ability to develop teams and maintain constructive working arrangements at all levels and with all disciplinesUnderstanding of Information and Communication Technology systems and application.Well-developed leadership and motivation skillsAbility to think quickly, assess complex managerial/clinical situations and make decisions upon that informationUnderstanding of legal responsibilities within the rolePersonal QualitiesAn ability to work effectively, individually or as part of a team.To communicate, confidently and effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organisation and with external agencies and industryValid CRB CheckSound judgement – able to evaluate information and advise on appropriate course of action.The Behavioural Standards FrameworkEverybody’s responsibility in everything we doPLEASE NOTE THAT SHORTLISTED APPLICANTS WILL BE CONTACTED BY EMAIL.The Trust promotes flexible working opportunities where ever possible to enable staff to balance their work and home life.
