Job Descrption
The post holder is expected to have experience in oncology. The post would suit a trainee in either clinical or medical oncology, who envisages a future career as a clinical researcher involved in academic clinical trial development and translational research, and who wishes to build her or his knowledge and skills to support this career path.
Main duties of the job
• Develop clinical research skills in order to propose, design and develop academic institutional and/or multicentre clinical trials with support from the consultants and experienced statisticians and trial managers working within the Neuro-oncology unit
• Develop grant writing skills for peer reviewed funding and/or endorsement of academic clinical and translational studies. This includes understanding how to appropriately cost a study and attribute the costs of healthcare research as required by major research funders
• Develop skills to design translational research protocols in collaboration with clinician scientists... and statisticians

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
• Eligible for full GMC registration.
• MRCP or equivalent
Desirable
• Trainee in medical oncology, or clinical oncology (ideally with FRCR)
Experience
Essential
• Management of cancer patients including radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
• Training at specialist registrar level.
Desirable
• Postgraduate teaching.
Skills, abilities and knowledge
Essential
• Ability and willingness to work within a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
• Previous experience of clinical trials and management of patients on clinical trials
Personal qualities
Essential
• Commitment to participate actively in clinical research and collaborate in translational research.
