Main duties of the job

We are pleased to announce this exciting opportunity to recruit one full time Trust grade registrar ST3+ position to join Head and Neck Surgical specialties. The post expected to start date is December 2024 for 12 months
The post holder will provide care for both Head and Neck, Maxillofacial and ENT patients. The Rota allows the post holder to have the opportunity to gain significant Head and Neck Cancer experience including reconstructive free flap surgery (around eight major cases performed per month), facial trauma and aesthetic facial surgery.

Applicants will also be encouraged to participate in the extensive teaching, research, audit and service improvement within UCL collaboration projects around individual development requirements and the need of the service.

We encourage applications from individuals who are dual qualified doctors (equivalent to ST3) wishing to pursue a career in Head & Neck Surgery.

Person specification

Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
• Eligible for Full registration with GMC
• Eligible for full registration with GDC
• BDS or equivalent dental qualification
• MBBS or equivalent qualification
• MRCS/FRCS or AFRCS or equivalent postgraduate diploma
Desirable criteria
• FDS/FFD FCS or FDS/MFD RCS or equivalent
Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
• A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience in maxillofacial surgery (FY1+2 competencies or equivalent
• Competence in clinical skills relevant to maxillo-facial training
• Experience at SpR level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
• Experience in other related specialties
• ATLS/APLS
• ALS or equivalent
Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
• Commitment to personal and professional development in maxillofacial surgery
• Demonstrable interest in and understanding of maxillofacial surgery
• Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate
• Clear logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach
• Understanding of clinical risk management
• Knowledge of evidence informed practice
Desirable criteria
• Extra-curricular activities and achievements relevant to maxillofacial surgery
• Demonstrates breadth of experience and awareness in and outside specialty
Clinical Governance Audit and IT

Essential criteria
• Good understanding of hospital clinical date repositories and adequate IT skills to support your work
