Position: Teaching Assistant – Makaton Support for Non-Verbal Student
Location: North London
Working Hours: 4 Days a Week (Monday to Thursday)
Start Date: ASAP
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a non-verbal college-aged student in North London. This student requires consistent assistance with communication, and the ability to use Makaton is essential for this role. The successful candidate will work closely with the student, helping them engage with their learning environment and access the college curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide tailored support using Makaton signing to assist the student with communication.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to ensure the student’s needs are met.
• Foster a safe, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment.
• Help the student participate in class activities, promoting independence and confidence.
• Monitor and report on the student’s progress, making... adjustments to support as needed.Requirements:
• Proficiency in Makaton signing is essential.
• Previous experience supporting students with non-verbal communication is highly desirable.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with SEND students.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A current Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
Working Hours: 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday), 9 am - 4 pm, term-time only.
