Position Overview

Discipline: Politics, International Relations, Sociology and Anthropology

Faculty: Social Sciences

Term: Full-time or part-time posts are available. All posts are fixed term, for up to 8 months.

Range: At Assistant Professor (G8) level, £47,321 to £54,827, progressing to £58,155 once in post; £69,404, progressing to £75,833 once in post.

Direct Reports: Associate Professors may be asked to fulfil line manager responsibilities with the Faculty.

Reports to: Assigned line manager within the Social Sciences.

The Role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint Assistant/Associate Professor(s) in International Relations and/or Sociology (part-time or full-time appointments). The appointee(s) will lead and deliver courses in International Relations and/or Sociology.

The role is open to different specialisms, but we wish to appoint a candidate able to teach International Relations courses at different levels. The ability to teach undergraduate courses in Sustainability and/or Urban Studies would be an advantage.

Core duties will include:
• Course development and course updating.
• Teaching across a variety of courses in International Relations and/or Sociology (including team teaching if required).
• Scholarly engagement with the discipline.
• Interdisciplinary interests.
• Administrative duties within the Discipline and the Faculty.

Faculty are expected to prepare and maintain relevant VLE sites, prepare and mark assessments, hold office hours, and other duties as per the University’s policies and procedures.

Person Specification Criteria

To undertake this role, the following should apply:

Education, Qualifications and Training:
• PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area (essential).
• Teaching qualification (FHEA or equivalent, and higher level) (desirable).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Teaching competency in International Relations and/or Urban Studies to at least Level 4 (first year undergraduate) (essential).
• Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in teaching, and service (essential).
• Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in relation to institutionally strategic themes (essential).
• Flexibility and capacity to teach across a wide range of courses (essential).

Experience:
• Previous experience of teaching politics and/or international relations courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels (desirable).
• Experience in planning, managing, organising, and assessing own teaching contributions (desirable).
