Import and Trade Compliance Customs Manager - Clothing at UNIQLO

We are currently recruiting for a Trade Compliance Manager to sit within the EU Finance team, based in our London office. You will be reporting into the Head of Accounting, Tax and Accounts Payable, working closely with the logistics and finance teams and stakeholders from across the global business.

The mission for the Logistics and the import/export function is the seamless, on time delivery of products our customers want. Managing lead times/shipments, paying appropriate duties in line with latest free trade and customs/laws in EU and UK; linking and managing the end-to-end information from production countries to import customs clearance in the end seller countries.

The ideal person will be an expert in the... field, having fashion clothing experience and continuously keeping up to date of industry best practice, as well the latest compliance changes.

What you will be responsible for:
• Managing end to end trade-related and customs-related process management
• Supporting to build a new organization and operation within the department
• Obtaining weekly reports from customs brokers for managing HS code, ensuring application of preferential rate agreement treatments for customs etc.
• Selecting appropriate HS code together with customs brokers as well as streamlining internal processes in cooperation with global headquarters
• Selecting appropriate preferential treatments such as FTA, DCTS, LDC, etc. together with customs brokers and exporters to confirm items are qualified.
• Reviewing customs value based on commercial transactions and physical product flow
• Communicating with customs authorities in the EU and the UK (e.g. advanced ruling, correction/reassessment of customs clearance, response to post-clearance audits)
• Reporting weekly to leadership team and educating relevant departments
• Staying up to date with all regulation changes (e.g. CBAM, EUDR)
• Retaining the necessary customs declaration data including other supporting documents for post-clearance audits
• Conducting comprehensive customs health checks, setting up a periodic audit process in key areas
• Initiating and maintaining a Customs Compliance Manual as live documentation for proof of procedural checks

Skills, Experience and Attributes:
• Preferable, a minimum 5 years of experience in trade-related operation as a shipper (with a focus on import customs declaration)
• Knowledge of customs compliance (rules of origin, HS classification, customs valuation, etc.)
• Leadership skills, able to introduce new operations and IT systems to support the function
• In depth understanding of supply chain and the ability to identify and solve issues
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the business. Including communication with customs, forwarders, brokers, exporters, Global Headquarter in Japan linking in with a wide range of other departments
• Ability to organise and prioritise own workload to deliver to tight deadlines
• Proactive and easily adaptable to change
