Description of the Business Line or Department
MARK/GRS is Societe Generale’s Global Cross Asset Research department. With more than 200 analysts, strategists and economists, it offers in-depth analysis and a distinctive cross-asset approach: impact of major events across asset classes, assessment of the links between asset classes, strategic synthesis to provide an integrated view.
Societe Generale Global Research offers global coverage, thanks to local networks in Eastern Europe (Bucharest, Warsaw, and Prague), the strengthening of its platform in the US and in Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, and Bangalore), its presence in North Africa (Casablanca), together with an established UK and Western European base.
The EM Strategy team is responsible for providing strategic research and recommendations in EM fixed income and currency markets to SG clients, as... well as providing a key support function to the FIC business (Sales, Trading, and Debt Capital Markets). All GRS research is published via www.sgmarkets.com. The team is geographically split between London / Hong Kong / New York / Casablanca.
Summary of the key purposes of the role
The successful candidate will be London-based, reporting directly to the Lead CEEMEA Strategist based in London.
His/her key responsibilities will be to:
Economic and financial research & analysis on Central Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEEMEA) local markets, providing in-depth views on the macro-economic, social, and political developments underpinning local currencies, local rates, and bonds.
Preparation of written documents to communicate the findings to clients.
Marketing: presentations and meetings with internal and external clients.
Press contacts, as approved by Management and Communications.
Analyse the economic, political, and policy fundamentals of CEEMEA markets, and use these to help the team formulate a perspective on valuations for local assets within the region.
Prepare forecasts and nowcasts of crucial macroeconomic indicators in CEEMEA market using econometric / data analysis software.
Assist in developing and presenting trade ideas (both tactical and strategic) based on a variety of frameworks (e.g. macro / fundamental / technical / valuations-driven / forecasting models).
Advise SG trading functions on market developments and views on financial markets to enhance risk management.
Advise external clients on FX and interest rate markets along with general macroeconomic developments to assist them in generating investment returns.
Provide value-added analyses, thereby raising SG’s global profile and strengthening relationships with clients.
Identify existing gaps in existing CEEMEA research offering and innovate ways to close those gaps and strengthen SG’s research offering.
Timely publication of research and of contributions to team / cross-asset projects.
Work with and help develop more junior members of the team – if available.
Collaborate with colleagues across SG business lines, while upholding the highest standards of professional conduct.

Research product responsibilities
Collect relevant public information and data, ensuring it comes from reliable sources.
Investigate key information and key data points, through checks and discussions. Ensure reliability of data through the verification of sample data, and other means.
Build econometric and / or financial models, describing relevant parts of the business environment and allowing for forecasts; ensure the modelisation process and outcome is to the highest professional standards.
Update the models whenever necessary, and improve or replace them when appropriate.
Develop innovative and value-adding approaches, both for collecting data and for analysing it, in order to provide clients with input that adds value to their thought process.
Subject any finding and any forecast to critical analysis.
Based on the research and analysis work, prepare and publish, regularly and whenever necessary, documents that update clients on developments on the subject covered, and that highlight key points.
Strictly respect all internal rules and all external regulations relating to the research production process.
Make sure to take into account findings of Research teams that are “upstream” (e.g., Economists for EM analysts), and to fully leverage the findings of teams that are “peer” (e.g., other Strategy teams), developing whenever possible SG Global Research’s specific Cross Asset franchise.
Answer clients’ bespoke requests, within the framework set by Compliance for bespoke research activity, and in line with the overall marketing approach (please see below).
Participate in industry events, when necessary.
Research marketing responsibilities
Based on the priorities defined in the marketing approach, communicate the published findings to internal and external clients, through calls, messages, one-to-one meetings, video-conferences, or conferences.
Based on the priorities defined in the marketing approach, develop long term relationships with clients characterized by trust and professionalism; build, foster and cultivate client relationships in line with regulatory requirements.
Based on the priorities defined in the marketing approach, initiate and develop new client relationships.
Based on the priorities defined in the marketing approach, respond to client requests; analyse, investigate, research, manage and resolve queries received from clients.
Ensure an active communication of published findings to internal clients, through chats, messages, calls, conferences; in particular, present ideas to the general sales desk, and participate in regional/ global sales meetings as directed.
Ensure that all available feedback is captured electronically and available for further analysis, by knowing how to use CRM tools, and by effectively using them.
Provide qualitative feedback to BL Management, whenever useful.
Represent SG in front of the general public and the press, subject to approval by Communications, and as directed by SG management.
Conduct Responsibilities
Strictly adhere to all relevant internal rules and external regulations; strictly comply with operational and conduct risk requirements (e.g data leakage, security policies and regulatory requirements).
In particular, ensure full adherence to the SG Research responsibilities, as defined in the Research handbook and in regular training sessions.
Take reasonable steps to be fully aware of, understand and comply with all regulatory requirements from all regulatory and statutory bodies, trading venues, etc. that are applicable to the role and the business line.
Protect SG market share and reputation, through professionalism, discipline, rigor, and attention to risks.
Make sure all research is produced according to SG Research standards and methods, and to the highest standards of quality.
Assist in the self-identification of all conduct related issues. Ensure escalation to appropriate stakeholder or function whether internal or external.
Adhere to business line mandates relevant to the role as directed by your manager.
Control costs; minimize unnecessary expenses related to travel, data feeds, etc.
