Job Role:
Faculty must serve as the program subject matter experts and assist the Chair/Coordinator on the ongoing operation of the academic program; ensure accredited curriculum is implemented in accordance with the academic standards of the university and in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Education Higher Education Affairs. Faculty reports directly to the DEAN of the program and assist the Chair/Coordinator in the department and any administrative staff associated with the department.
The academic Faculty is to work for a minimum of forty (40) hours per week; the faculty is expected to teach a full course load and holding office hours accordingly, subject to revision by the Chair/Coordinator in consultation with Dean and provost for any course release for research or community outreach.
In addition to teaching, faculty members, in consultation with the Dean should focus additional, non-instructional activities on Research, Development and Creative activities or... administrative duties and services to the university and community.
Position Overview:
The Associate Professor in Creative Industries will contribute to the teaching, research, and professional activities within the field of Creative Industries. The role focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to creative sectors, such as media business, communication studies, music design, fashion industry, and digital arts. The successful candidate will engage in academic research, mentorship, and contribute to the development of curricula that align with industry needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Curriculum Development:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas related to the Creative Industries (e.g., modern art, digital design studio, media production, cultural policy, creative entrepreneurship, managing creative enterprises, digital storytelling, etc.).
• Develop and update course materials, ensuring alignment with the latest industry trends and technologies.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects, dissertations, and theses.
Research:
• Lead and contribute to high-quality, impactful research in areas relevant to the Creative Industries.
• Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences, both locally and internationally.
• Pursue external research funding through grants and partnerships.
Industry Engagement:
• Foster relationships with industry partners and creative professionals to create collaborative projects, internships, and knowledge exchanges.
• Stay connected to industry developments, ensuring the relevancy of academic work.
Service and Administration:
• Participate in departmental, faculty, and university committees.
• Assist in program reviews, accreditations, and strategic planning for the department.
• Mentor junior faculty and contribute to the development of a collaborative and inclusive academic environment.
Student Support:
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to students pursuing careers in creative sectors.
• Organize workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities that connect students with industry professionals.
Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in Creative Industries, Media Studies, Cultural Studies, or a related field.
• A strong academic record, with a minimum of [8] years of teaching experience at the university level.
• A substantial publication record in relevant academic fields.
• Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
• Experience working with industry partners and stakeholders in the creative sectors.
• A track record of supervising graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
Skills and Competencies:
• Expertise in one or more areas of the Creative Industries, such as film, television, digital media, performing arts, fashion, etc.
• Strong pedagogical skills and experience in innovative teaching methods, including digital learning tools.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic settings.
