Software Engineer - Operations at Microsoft

Job Descrption

The Azure Fiber team in Romsey is seeking a methodical and dependable Software Engineer to join our team. You will be part of our software team, supporting the development of software application or features that are internally deployed in our manufacturing and test lines. You will be responsible for software and databases up-time, managing tasks and delivering solutions related to bug-fixes and implementation of new features for released applications. You will also support the management of our product backlog items, leveraging on-premises resources and external suppliers. Furthermore, you will manage our relationship with IT suppliers and vendors. As such, this is a hands-on role based in Romsey, UK.

Responsibilities

  • You will address issues impacting performance or functionality of Live Service on a rotational, on-call basis. You will implement solutions for complex issues, escalate as necessary and share insights with the Team.
  • You will guide other engineers by example, so by reviewing the code for quality and adherence to standards, ensuring its reliability and accuracy, and participating in code reviews. You will also develop and follow the playbook.
  • You will focus on implementing extensive automation in both the production and deployment phases to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • You will test code in simulated environments to ensure error-free functionality while developing standardized, scalable solutions.
  • You will apply debugging tools and examine logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions through writing and developing code proactively before issues occur, and reactively as issues occur for products.
  • Additionally, you will build, enhance, and contribute to software development tools as well as identify new tools for code creation and maintenance.
  • You will conduct retrospective debugging of solutions to identify root causes of problems.
  • You will maintain communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers, ensuring alignment with partners’ expectations and driving desirable user experiences through product development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in designing end-to-end software solutions for equipment and data automation, ideally with Python and using Python Packages with a focus on process automation and web applications.
  • Experience in implementation and management of deployment pipelines.
  • Good understanding of cloud services, relational and time series databases.
  • Manufacturing industry experience.

Other Requirements:

 

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • C# for working with MS products, JavaScript and HTML for front-end.
  • At least theoretical knowledge of LabVIEW.
