Communications Manager, Azure at Microsoft

We are investing heavily in existing and new cloud and AI platform technologies and services and Azure is foundational to these efforts. 

 

The Communications Manager, Microsoft Azure will work with the Azure Public Relations (PR) team lead to prioritize public relations efforts across the Azure product portfolio. In this role, the Communications Manager will focus where he or she is needed most, assuming responsibility for the day-to-day operations of public relations efforts across the portfolio, encompassing global storytelling, product launches, and influencer inquiries. This candidate will work with engineering, marketing, global communications colleagues, and others to showcase our Azure services and how they map to the company’s efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Aligned with Azure communications priorities, manage public relations strategy and execution for a variety of Azure products, including product launches and proactive storytelling efforts.  
  • Collaborate with business partners across marketing and engineering to develop creative, public relations approaches which have resonance across international markets and support local/regional/global business objectives.  
  • Drive a steady cadence of proactive storytelling and thought leadership. This includes thinking outside the box about how we reach influencers in an evolving media landscape. 
  • Lead and guide external agency resources for media research, engagement, and results measurement.  
  • Have a key role in leading Azure communications at Microsoft events. 

  

Accountabilities  

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Ability to understand the cloud and AI landscape and Azure capabilities and differentiation. Build on or develop a deep understanding of the market landscape.  
  • Strategy: Contribute to and execute public relations strategy that aligns with the broader business goals. 
  • Storytelling: Work with communications, marketing and engineering to source and tell stories that highlight technological breakthroughs and customer adoption.  
  • Project Management: Utilize your organizational skills during complex announcements and events, as well as your ability to prioritize and balance competing projects and priorities.  
  • Spokesperson Support: Work with others to enhance their storytelling skills and help them to focus on opportunities that yield a consistent ROI.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 2+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 4+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of business or technical communications, analyst relations, and/or product marketing experience.  
  • Experience with or passion for cutting-edge technologies, including cloud, AI, developer tools, services, datacenters and infrastructure.
  • Candidates should have a track record of cross-group collaboration; growth mindset; business maturity, and diplomacy under pressure. 
  • Excellent communication, writing and project management skills.  
  • A driven, self-starter—with the ability to work independently and in ambiguous and changing environments.  

 

Communications IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $80,900 - $162,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,300 - $176,900 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
