Job Purpose:
The PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency, is an intensive one-year program designed to cultivate pharmacists who will lead the transformation of community pharmacy practice. This residency provides a comprehensive learning experience that prepares residents to deliver exceptional patient care, assume leadership roles, and refine and expand their clinical, leadership, and educational proficiencies.
Focused on health-system specialty pharmacy practice, the residency program aims to develop proficient pharmacists skilled in managing complex medication regimens and providing comprehensive medication therapy management. The curriculum offers hands-on experience in clinical pharmacy, pharmacy operations, leadership, and teaching, equipping residents to significantly contribute to community health and innovate in pharmacy practice. Emphasizing continual improvement, lifelong learning, and professional responsibility, the program prepares residents for diverse roles in patient care, healthcare collaboration, and educational initiatives, fostering a commitment to ethical practice and healthcare advancement.
Through these comprehensive experiences, residents develop into confident, autonomous pharmacists who adeptly apply their knowledge, effectively utilize resources, and confidently leverage technology to improve the quality of patient care. Residents will learn to forge connections with patients and prescribers, enhance medication adherence, and promote evidence-based care in a community pharmacy setting with a specialized focus on health-system specialty pharmacy practices.
The PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Resident will report to the PGY1 Residency Program Director.
Research project: Residents engage in a comprehensive year-long research project, mentored by experienced preceptors, to deepen their knowledge and skills. This initiative offers the chance to showcase their findings and innovative solutions at various organizational, local, state, or national conferences, providing a platform for professional development and contribution to the broader field.
On-Call: Residents will participate in an on-call rotation, providing critical support and decision-making assistance during non-standard hours. This role is essential for maintaining continuous, high-quality patient care and responding to urgent healthcare needs.
Staffing: In addition to regular responsibilities, residents may be required to perform staffing duties. This may include covering shifts in various pharmacy settings or assisting with unexpected workload increases, ensuring seamless pharmacy operations and optimal patient care.

Skills: Analyze information, exercise good judgment, strong verbal and written communication skills, general knowledge of specialty medication pharmacology, local/state/federal pharmacy regulations, able to manage processes, highly productive, quality focused and attention to detail. Ability to critically evaluate clinical data and literature to improve patient care and service delivery. Proficient with standard software used in the healthcare office setting (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Ability to identify barriers to medication adherence and implement and monitor care plans to improve medication adherence. The ability to motivate, inspire and empower patients to achieve better outcomes and identify disease-specific goals of therapy.
