This position supports the work of the Maine Unemployment Insurance Commission, a quasi-judicial appellate board.  The position requires specific knowledge of certain legal terminology, procedures, and documents. Responsibilities require independent decision-making on appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with procedures.

Primary responsibilities include:  

  • Create spreadsheets and perform data management
  • Create and use varied correspondence formats and compose standard business correspondence
  • Proofread and edit complex and technical records, letters, memos, reports, contracts and/or documents
  • Type agendas, maintain calendars and schedules
  • Correspond with the public to receive/supply information
  • Query for data via telephone and computer
  • Gather and compile information for reports
  • Monitor, requisition, and purchase supplies

Skills or knowledge required:

  • Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and business English
  • Ability to operate modern standard office equipment
  • Ability to create and use varied correspondence formats and compose standard business correspondence
  • Ability to proofread and/or edit complex and technical documents
  • Ability to gather and compile information
  • Ability to work with timelines and schedules
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to resolve problems
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions/recommendations

Minimum qualifications:

Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a general knowledge of the principles and practices of office processes and administrative functions to perform routine secretarial support tasks, and 2) the ability to use independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures.
