The Maine Forest Service Forest Health and Monitoring (FHM) Division has a current vacancy for a 35-week seasonal Conservation Aide in the Fort Kent or Madawaska area. The actual location is flexible.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The position will perform outdoor tasks related to field data collection on an annualized forest inventory survey. Work will include measuring and recording a variety of data on forested and non-forest inventory plots. Work is performed under immediate supervision.
The following tasks are typical duties of this position:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and/or experience in conservation work and/or a high school diploma or equivalent.
Preference will be given to those with one year of training and/or experience in a natural resource-related field. A year of High School coursework related to this field will be accepted as one year of training.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Within the first twelve months of employment, the selected candidate must receive training in forest inventory/health field procedures for collecting data and must take and pass a written and practical field test meeting quality control and assurance standards to become certified by the US Forest Service.
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Maine Driver's License.
