JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is administrative work involving the promotion, sale, and marketing of lottery tickets in an assigned geographic area. Employees recruit new agents and present and promote services to existing accounts. Work requires considerable salesmanship and a high degree of public relations skills. Work is performed under general supervision.
REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).
- Contacts prospective lottery sales agents, presents the product line of the Maine State Lottery, and explains and promotes the benefits of the lottery program to market lottery tickets.
- Makes scheduled on-site sales visits to lottery sales agents and presents and promotes sales methods and techniques to expand current ticket sales.
- Makes on-site visits to prospective lottery sales agents and appraises the physical location, traffic count, display of other products, and related sales considerations to recommend action on lottery sales agent licenses.
- Handles customer service-related problems and complaints and follows-up on or refers problems to appropriate agency employees for resolution to promote and maintain good customer relations.
- Trains agents in lottery procedures, new games, payment to winners, prize liabilities, and related accounting procedures to ensure proper handling of lottery transactions.
- Completes required paperwork, including call sheets and other forms, to control lottery tickets and operations in assigned area.
- Communicates lottery ticket sales information to agents to inform future ticket procurement options and promote marketing methods to expand sales.
- Provides the agent with sales plan(s) that are customer specific (e.g. plan-o-gram) and provides technical assistance to meet agent sales goals.
- Obtains, monitors, and evaluates sales data for assigned areas to identify market changes and explain market strategies to agents for their use in reaching their retail goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).
A four (4) year combination of experience, education, and/or training in sales and/or sales promotion involving customer relations and product marketing.
Must hold a valid driver's license.
