We are seeking an experienced book industry sales professional to join our growing team and take on the exciting new role of Director of Sales for Independent Bookstores. This position will responsible for aggressively growing sales in the US independent bookstore channel. We are looking for an aggressive, fearless, natural leader to helm this channel and drive sales growth.
This position will be based in Chicago, Illinois or New York, NY. We offer hybrid work options in either location
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Growing sales in the independent bookstore market to meet or exceed sales plans
Grow POS volume to assigned goals
Expand the number of independent bookstore accounts ordering directly from Sourcebooks
Manage a team of regionally based sales reps located across the country to meet or exceed goals for overall sales in their territories as well as sales goals for individual titles.
Establish and grow relationships with key independent bookstores, the ABA and regional independent bookstore associations across the country
Inventory forecasting and revenue budgeting
Work in partnership with the Retail Marketing department on sales promotions for independent bookstores
Represent Sourcebooks at relevant tradeshows and industry functions
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
Minimum five years book publishing sales experience, including with independent bookstores, required
Minimum three years sales management experience required
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
Experience managing people required
Experience in setting and driving sales strategy to meet goals
Established relationships with leading independent bookstores, American Bookseller’s Associations and regional independent bookseller associations preferred
Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in standard MS Office programs, sales reporting and analysis
Experience is forecasting and budgeting
A driven, goal-oriented leader and a collaborative team player with high attention to detail
Extensive travel required, including overnight and occasional weekends
