Nemours is excited to offer part time, Co-Op Nursing Assistant opportunities for students who shadowed at Nemours and attend a Partner Vocational High school. This position will be on various units at Nemours Childrens Hospital, in Wilmington, DE! We currently have opportunities on the (3 West) Ortho Rehab, (3 East) Hem/Onc Bone Marrow Transplant (4 East) Med Surg Unit, and the Staffing Resource Pool.
3 West – Ortho Rehab
3 West is a medical surgical unit for patients 0-21 years of age. This unit is designated for orthopedic patients, patients in need of comprehensive rehabilitation and acute rehabilitation of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, ventilator-dependent patients, and patients with tracheotomies. Additional patient populations include neurosurgical and nonsurgical neurology, and infants transitioning from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Neurology and neurosurgical patients are also cared for on 3 West. This unit was designed to provide single patient care rooms to allow for privacy and family presence during the hospital stay.
3 East – Hem/Onc Bone Marrow Transplant
3 East is a 24-bed unit has been designated as the Hematology/Transplant and Cellular Therapy and Endocrine unit for the Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware. This step-down unit provides inpatient care for pediatric patients requiring services from the Hematology/ Oncology, Transplant and Cellular Therapy, and Endocrine subspecialties. Admitting diagnoses include but are not limited to leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, neuroblastomas, solid organ malignancies, sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, diabetes, and other types of genetic and immune disorders. In addition, stem cell and bone marrow donors are cared for on this unit. The type of patient care provided in this area is complex due to patient diagnosis, the intensity of therapy, the criticality of patient condition, and the extensive patient/family issues that necessitate nursing intervention.
4 East – Med/Surg
4 East is a general, specialty and subspecialty medical unit with a high population of medically complex patients requiring respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine and behavioral health management. Each single patient room is equipped with oxygen, compressed air and suction, along with state-of-the-art cardio respiratory bedside monitors and computers that enable the healthcare team to access a patient’s electronic medical record. These computers are also used in the barcoding administration of medications which ensures patient safety by verifying that the correct medication is given to the appropriate child. This unit’s goals are to provide high-quality, cost-effective, family-centered care. Family-centered care rounds are performed daily to assure an interprofessional approach and partnership with the patient and family.
Staffing Resource Pool
The Staffing Resource Pool provides support to critical and acute care nursing units throughout Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. During periods of vacancy, high volume, and acuity, the Staffing Resource Pool Registered Nurse, Nursing Assistant, and Patient Safety Companion provides expert clinical care to meet patient and family needs. The Staffing Resource Pool associate is oriented to perform skills throughout medical surgical, critical care, hematology/oncology, orthopedic, surgical, and cardiac care areas.
This position is responsible for: assisting with general activities of the patient care unit and assist the health care team with performance of patient care activities, under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse.
