Job Details

Fife Council provides out of school clubs across Fife to support families attend work, training for work or further education while their children can take part in a wide range of play-based activities. Services run from 07:30 to 09:00 and 14:45 to 18:00 during term-time and 07:30 to 18:00 during school holidays and in-service days.

Casual Childcare Practitioners are called upon to support the work of our out of school clubs providing cover for annual leave and absences.

As a Casual Childcare Practitioner, you may be asked to:

  • Plan and supervise activities with children and young people.
  • Set up the play space, provide appropriate materials and equipment.
  • Give children and young people the freedom to spend their leisure time in their own way.
  • Encourage independence, build self-esteem, and support children to try new skills and experiences.
  • Provide healthy and nutritious snacks taking account of dietary and nutritional needs.
  • Support children and young people on a one-to-one basis when required.
  • Deal with accidents/incidents.
  • Support the Senior Childcare Practitioner with record keeping.

The Person

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has formal or informal experience of working with children and young people.
  • Is willing to work towards the SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) or already holds a suitable qualification.
  • Is fun, engaging, adaptable, enthusiastic about working with children and young people.

You are required to register with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up employment in this role and to complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the first registration period.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
