You will lead the mechanical hardware design and development of new products. The range of relevant domains include mechanical engineering (particularly selection and use of materials at high temperatures), ultrasonic transduction, electromagnetism, hazardous area design standards, design for manufacture and design for automation. Initially, a strong background in mechanical engineering and product design is required.  It is encouraged that, over time, you will build your knowledge and expertise to become proficient in a growing number of domains. 

In this role, your responsibilities will be: 

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical parts of our sensor systems, working to a high level of technical competence and applying an appropriate level of design rigour to make engineering decisions. This will require an understanding of fundamental principles, simulation and experimentation. 
  • Communicate the justification for design decisions clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Specify and own the manufacture of components for verification testing.
  • Specify, implement and review verification tests and results.
  • Deliver your tracks in the project on time following our new product development processes to ensure the right things are done at the right time.
  • Understand and apply relevant design standards, particularly design for equipment in hazardous areas.

You step up to handle tough issues while displaying a can-do attitude in good and bad times! You provide timely and helpful information to individuals across the organization. You learn quickly when facing new situations and experiment to find new solutions. 

 

For this role, you will need:

  • BEng in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 3 years working in a relevant technical field.
  • Expert user of Solid-works or similar CAD package to produce 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings and photorealistic renders.
  • Able to perform FEA (stress and thermal modelling) 

 

Preferred Qualifications that set you apart:

  • Familiar with PLM tools (Enovia or similar)
  • Familiar with wide range of manufacturing process including die-casting, injection moulding and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Familiar with FMEA, DFM and DFA
