Your new role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Team Leader to join our Human Resources & Employee Engagement team in Birmingham!
Leading a team of 3 Payroll Advisor’s, you will be responsible for managing the payroll contract with third-party suppliers, providing accurate and timely processing of payroll and assuring compliance and internal audit. You will also be developing, owning and reviewing payroll processes, ensuring ownership and continuous improvement , and developing team members.
What you'll be leading on
- Monitoring KPI’s and initiating actions to improve service in line with Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) set internally and with our external payroll provider.
- Conduct a series of payroll audit checks on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, to ensure effective processing on all aspects of the employee lifecycle that are pay impacting.
- Regular data reconciliations with our payroll providers to maintain the accuracy and integrity of our data ensuring the payroll service is run accurately, mitigating any risks, preventing pay inaccuracies so that we pay our people right first time.
- Prepare and provide data and reports for audit/compliance, internal performance and risk management awareness and mitigation. Ensure all procedures are compliant with legislation including GDPR. Work with our payroll provider to ensure / monitor their own compliance.
- Working within HR and with Finance & Business Services to manage and maintain the over and under payment process, providing communications, process for recovery and performance reports. Utilise this data for root cause analysis and future preventative actions to minimise new occurrences.
- Putting our people first and ensuring a good customer experience through the service delivered by you and your team.
To be successful you’ll need
- Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation.
- In depth knowledge and experience of end-to-end payroll process.
- Experience of payroll provider contract management.
- Experience of payroll audit and compliance processes/activity and completing audit actions.
- Understanding of complex payroll/salary calculations (with an awareness of PAYE/NI/Benefit deductions).
- Experience managing a small team.
- Proven ability to positively and proactively manage internal and external stakeholders.
