Manager, AirCare/Mobile Integrated Health

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Paramedic Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership for ALS Paramedics and EMTs assigned to AirCare Critical Care Transport, and Mobile Integrated Health.  Responsibilities include 24-hour accountability for the management and long-term planning of the services. This includes maintaining a professional environment through staff development and collaborative team interactions for the enhancement of the quality of patient care specific to the age/development of the patient population and cost containment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

Graduation from an accredited Paramedic program, BSN required, minimum of 4 years’ Paramedic experience, minimum of 2 years management experience preferred, minimum of 2 years of critical Care transport experience. MIH experience preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: 

Current unrestricted Paramedic certification in the State of North Carolina, BLS required, ACLS, PALS NRP preferred, and National Certification in specialty area required within one year of hire. Certification as North Carolina and Nationally Registered Paramedic preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility in conjunction with Vice President, Enterprise Emergency Services and Vice President System Integration

 

  1. Staff Development: Provides leadership, guidance, and support to staff. Develops and fosters relationships which support the continuous enhancement of product and service delivery, and client and staff satisfaction through a professional environment of mutual respect. Facilitates resolution of conflicts and empowers staff in decision making.  Provides positive reinforcement and feedback to staff. Empowers and delegates according to the competency of staff, client and patient needs, and activity of department. Demonstrates servant leadership and serves as a role model. Ensures an environment which stimulates the ongoing professional development of staff in keeping with principles of Shared Governance and professional practice.

 

  1. Operations/Finance: Assumes responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of the budgetary process for designated area(s). Identifies opportunities for measurement of clinical and financial outcomes.  Is responsible for budget awareness and managing financial performance within budget expectations in conjunction with the Director, AirCare Transport.

 

  1. People Management: Responsible for creation, review, and revision of department specific policies. Administers Human Resource policies:  Utilizes appropriate personnel policies for hiring, performance improvement, discipline, and termination, along with the proper forms for personnel transactions. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate. Clearly communicates performance expectations to the team.

 

  1. Strategy/Partnerships:  Collaborates effectively throughout the organization, across markets, and with leadership, teammates, direct staff, clients, and partners by developing collegial relationships and communicating information effectively, encouraging communication and serving as a resource the broader team. Ability to evaluate and strategize locations and need for additional ALS and MIH assets to meet the needs of the health system and provide highest level of care for customers. Collaborate with transport and MIH program leadership from other regions of the health system to promote efficiencies in programs, and effective utilization of system assets. Serve on statewide and health system committees as needed including NC EMS Administrators Association.

 

  1. Quality & Safety: Assumes primary Responsibility for maintaining one of the three state office of EMS licensures (two North Carolina and one Virginia) including certification of all ground and air assets in assigned state. Accountability for maintaining accurate records of available assets, personnel, and locations of assets in assigned state. Ensuring all state requirements for assigned state is met including upload of electronic health records, update of protocols, maintaining state Viper radio communications frequencies. Planning and participation in required quarterly peer review meetings and providing required training for EMS. Ensures employees and program meets standards for accreditation and or re-accreditation by CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Transport Systems).

 

  1. Collaboration: Manage program operations including collaborating with Hospitalists team, as well as lab and pharmacy managers in each health system facility to ensure effectiveness of MIH program operation.  Promote billing compliance and effectiveness for ALS ground transport. Serves as program administrator for external electronic health record including maintaining employee access and collaborating with vendor to ensure required NEMSIS electronic transfer of electronic health records to North Carolina and Virginia Offices of EMS. Collaborates with vendors at multiple off-campus sites to arrange service and payment for internet service, garbage collection, pest control, power, and water utilities, etc. 

 

  1. Asset Management: Evaluates and approves medical equipment approved for patient use during Mobile Integrated Health, and ALS ground transports.  Assess and recommend Capital equipment purchases including replacement equipment and vehicles. Ensure preventive maintenance scheduled and performed on all medical devices and vehicle service and maintenance scheduled and performed on all agency vehicles.   

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Knowledge of MIH environment and regulatory requirements of providing MIH services.
  • Knowledge of transport environment including ground operations and MIH operations.  
  • Knowledge of billing practices for ground transport in accordance with CMS standards.
