A postdoctoral position is available for a collaborative research project in the laboratories of Dr. Jared Weis in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Dr. Victoria Weis in the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. We have recently pioneered the translational use of photoacoustic imaging for characterizing intestinal physiology in infants. Our current research goals focus on developing and validating these novel in vivo photoacoustic imaging methods in animal models of intestinal diseases affecting premature infants, specifically necrotizing enterocolitis. This research integrates gastrointestinal cell biology/physiology and biomedical imaging tools to explore the mechanistic underpinnings of an exciting and translationally relevant diagnostic imaging method for infant intestinal diseases.
Self-motivated individuals with a PhD or equivalent in biomedical sciences and a record of scholarly productivity in biomedical research are encouraged to apply. Researchers who have expertise and interest in gastrointestinal physiology with wet lab experience in animal models of disease and cell/molecular biology will be given preference. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to work within a highly interactive and multidisciplinary team to conduct basic and translational gastrointestinal research. Salary for the postdoctoral fellow is competitive by following the guidelines stipulated by the National Institutes of Health.
