Job Title: Lead Product Design & Development Engineer
Salary: $118,300.00 - 150,800.00/ annual; plus bonus eligibility
Summary: Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of golf club design and engineering to complete complex production development projects. Plans, conducts, and coordinates development programs designed to complete complex product opportunities requiring the integration of new and unique approaches as well as Industrial Design requirements. Reviews with management and Concept Development to critically evaluate complex project opportunities in an organized manner to align with production program critical path schedule requirements. Works with substantial latitude for un-reviewed actions or decisions. Provides a wide array of project management and technical support to the development of new golf club designs/products. Leads other R&D associates in project and design development both internally and with key suppliers.
Responsibilities:
Plans and coordinates golf club design & development, with an emphasis on integrating Concept Development technologies with Industrial/Graphic Design considerations to produce production-ready platforms. Creates engineering CAD models of new designs on their own or in collaboration with suppliers. Manages communication process, action items schedules and deliverables of new product development projects from design through manufacturing phases for on time launch. Collaborates with suppliers to identify, trouble shoot and resolve issues as needed. Travels to San Diego-based suppliers to facilitate the design and development of new products, as well as provides face-to-face communication of projects.
Manages the activity of the design and development team as well as cross-department teams, integrating resource availability and strengths with golf club project complexity and overall workload. Develops and implements changes that increase the team’s productivity and capacity. Implements process improvements that increase efficiency. Monitors team morale and act accordingly to maintain it at a high level.
Develops, establishes, and refines new processes as needed for new products, business/communication process improvement and to assist in delivering the department and company objectives.
Plans and executes testing and analysis for product validation and qualification and robust design. Evaluates, reports, and provides recommendations to management based on testing results.
Coordinates the development and release of all necessary engineering and technical documentation related to production golf club projects. Actively manages and applies CAD resources to support product development. Develops, creates, and revises product specifications, Coordinates with Quality team to establish, define and implement acceptable quality criteria and limit samples. Assists in qualification, readiness, and product information distribution to assembly facilities for effective manufacturing preparedness.
Pursues comprehensive patents in previously unexplored areas by submitting invention records and actively supporting intellectual property efforts. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of state-of-the-art materials/processes, manufacturing methods, USGA golf club product specification regulations, competitive specifications, patents, and trends. Identifies potential applications to golf club design and initiates their implementation when appropriate.
Requirements:
B.S. Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or similar Engineering discipline and preferably an advanced degree.
A minimum of 8 years consumer goods product design, engineering and development is required. 3 years in golf club product design preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of SolidWorks or NX CAD and CNC machining and processes, project management, technical drawing, and writing.
