Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £31,404.40 per annum

Working Hours: full time 37.5 hours per week

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday

Location: Arlington, Camden, London

The difference you will make as a Specialist Deputy Team Manager

As Deputy Manager, you will manage a team of Support Officers and other support staff and deputise for the Team Manager during periods of absence.  You will provide high standards of support to our customers which includes overseeing and developing effective working relationships with partners and commissioners ensuring compliance with any contractual obligations. 

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience of staff management including conflict resolution, motivating staff and how to encourage good performance 
  • Experience of working with different client groups and knowledge of the challenges and opportunities  
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures for adults and children 
  • Ability to work within an assessment and support planning process relevant to the customer group 
  • Knowledge of resettlement and housing issues for people with support needs including welfare benefits 
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues in relation to the customer group

Role Profile

  • To provide clinical input for the staff and customers as directed by the service specification and the needs of the service.
  • To ensure the delivery of a high quality supported service for customers with mental health and complex needs which reflects best practice and adheres to all relevant legislation and performance standards.
  • To provide in house training to staff in personal areas of expertise i.e. counselling, nursing, social work, drug and alcohol specialist, etc.   
  • Recruit, support and supervise staff, setting and demanding professional standards of working.
  •  To deputise for the Team Manager during periods of absence and to provide management    cover outside of core hours, as determined by the Team Manager.
  • To provide the customer with relevant clinical input commensurate with the qualification held, i.e. RMN or other clinical qualification
  • Where required to oversee a caseload of customers
  • To assist the manager in holding day to day responsibility for deployment of staff and maintaining the rota and caseloads
  • To participate in the training of staff as required, especially in the area of disseminating good practice within this specialist field
  • Performance management including setting targets, monitoring and taking action to address any performance issues
  • To assist the manager in ensuring regular team meetings are held and staff are informed about the organisation’s strategic goals
  • To ensure staff are empowered to take responsibility and to work in a way that is imaginative and responsive to the needs of customers
  • To facilitate and encourage effective customer participation, consultation and feedback within the project / service
  • Ensure that Medication Management and support is delivered within policy and procedure.
  • Ensure that all required databases are kept up to date and that appropriate records are kept.
  • To monitor service provision on a regular basis and assist the manager in ensuring that all service audit improvement action is completed
  • To ensure that staff adhere to all relevant policies and procedures
  • To liaise effectively with partner agencies and stakeholders to ensure referrals and assessment issues are dealt with in a timely fashion, and service utilisation is maximised
  • To develop and maintain positive links with local statutory and independent sector services
  • To assist the manager to work within and monitor the service budget against management accounts
  • To ensure that all the work carried out by the service meets Health and Safety requirements
  • Participate in cross-service initiatives & projects in relation to their specialist area (i.e. organisational training, reflective case management, WOW projects, peer support groups, etc.) 
  • Any other duties within the general scope of the post as directed by the Team Manager or other senior managers

 

Person specification

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

 

Essential

  • Experience working in community settings therapeutically, including assessments, designing interventions and demonstrating outcomes.
  • Experience of developing interventions for both staff and customer groups
  • A minimum of 1 year working experience relevant to mental health
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing including the preparation of letters, reports & file notes
  • Basic level of IT skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of up to date legislation, government frameworks relevant to mental health
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting individuals relevant to mental health
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures for adults and children
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues in relation to mental health 
  • Experience of assessment, risk management and support planning relevant to mental health 
  • Demonstrable  ability to foster and maintain relations internally and externally
  • Demonstrable ability to prioritise workload
  • A relevant professional qualification in the area of expertise (i.e. Drug and alcohol, counselling, psychology, OT, nursing or social work or any other relevant qualifications) preferably fully registered with relevant accreditation body.

Desirable

  • Experience providing specialist supervision
  • Experience of medication administration
  • Ability to design and deliver staff and customer training programmes
  • Ability to undertake staff management - how to resolve conflict, elicit good performance and motivate staff
  • Ability to promote customer involvement, choice and diversity
  • Ability to represent One Housing to other agencies and companies
