GLOBAL TRADE SANCTIONS COMPLIANCE MANAGER :

About The Role:

The Global Trade Sanctions Compliance Manager will be responsible for enhancing and refining Pearson’s Sanctions Compliance Program by managing and refining processes to align with US Department of Treasury (OFAC), Department of Commerce (BIS), UK OFSI, and other sanctions regulations that may impact Pearson’s business to ensure appropriate measures are implemented to limit risk.  

This Global Trade Sanctions Compliance Manager is part of the Ethics & Compliance Office (ECO) and will be reporting to the Director of Global Third-Party Compliance 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction in sustaining and enhancing the effectiveness of the global trade sanctions compliance program. 
  • First point of escalation for day-to-day sanctions inquiries and provide support to the business on various sanctions matters:
    • Third party suppliers, contractors, and vendors
    • Accounts payable and receivables 
    • Internal Audit 
    • Treasury and Finance Teams 
    • KYC reviews 
  • Draft policies and procedures that are “fit for purpose” and in line with US and other jurisdictions’ requirements for an effective sanctions program. 
  • Collaborate with the due diligence team on 3rd party reviews to ensure a streamlined comprehensive risk review is completed. 
  • Monitor the business’s compliance with sanctions policy and procedures.  
  • Collaborate with other ECO team members and the Legal Operations training lead to develop an effective sanctions compliance training program Including: 
    • Develop, roll out and track all sanctions compliance training. 
    • Conduct specialized ad hoc training sessions for certain employees. 
    • Collaborate on appropriate and tailored training materials and guidance for Local Compliance Officer (LCO) program in collaboration with Legal Operations training lead. 
    • Develop “train the trainer” program for LCOs. 
    • Conduct risk review / assessment of sanctions program. 
  • Assist in compliance investigations, disclosures and audits including updating policies and procedures and implementing remedial measures and corrective action. 
  • Identify potential areas of trade compliance vulnerability and risk of compliance gaps or breaches, support analysis of concerns and development and implementation of remedial measures.  
  • Implement, execute, and monitor improvements and changes to the trade sanctions compliance program. 
  • Review potential alerts resulting from sanctions screening, make determinations and document resolution or escalating for a second level review as needed. 
  • Document policies and procedures around ECO trade compliance activities and record keeping. 
  • Cross train in anti-bribery/anti-corruption due diligence analysis. 
  • Other ECO activities as needed. 

About you: 

Required 

  • Degree from college or university  
  • Prior experience in global trade sanctions and export regulations (US OFAC, UK OFSI)  
  • Ability to quickly locate and interpret requirements to develop strategic, creative, and effective ways resolve sanctions issues. 
  • Strong IT knowledge, including excellent MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills. 
  • Possesses and displays excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong leadership skills to broadly influence and effectively forge partnerships both internally and externally with employees at all levels. 
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing, and growing environment. 

Preferred 

Minimum 3 years of global sanctions compliance experience preferably with a background in US and/ or EU anti-corruption/anti-bribery regulatory rules. 

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows: 

The full-time salary range is between $90K-$100K
