New Graduates
New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.
IU Arnett’s Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a non-surgical progressive care unit. Nurses treat patients with compassion, care, and clinical excellence. PCU is a 27-bed unit that maintains IU Arnett’s Rapid Response Bed. Our team also consists of a paramedic staff member to assist with transport (Monday-Friday). PCU nurses provide care to a continuum of medical diagnoses including: NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, PE pre-intervention, cardiac catheterization, post CABG/open-heart failure, heart failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, DKA, AFIB ablation, Watchman, and other percutaneous intervention patients.
Nursing skills gained:
Patient care assessment skills
Assistance with bedside procedures: central line placement, cardioversion, EGD
End of life care; patient and family advocacy
Cross training to ICU

Qualifications
Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
